RE: arrived back at home and noticed huge rashes and itching ever since i stayed at this hostel. This hostel seems to be a 24hour available facility for anyone to rent a few hours to stay at the lounge/take a shower, explaining the 24h frontdesk. Expect the lounge on your level to be filled. I stayed on the 2nd floor with a smoking room and there were about 10pax at the lounge at any given time. I booked the larger rooms on the 2nd floor, which the lift doesnt operate to. Capsule itself was rather big (120cm wide) and seemed to be comfortable. However, it was really stuffy even in winter, and was the kind of rooms that was shared with probably about 50 other bunk beds with just a small walkway in between. U could hear someone breaking a fart and breathing next to you, and the loud snoring from other travellers is deafening at night. Since it is a 24h available people can be checking in at wee hours of the night lugging their huge luggages and stomping past your bed at night. Lights are on 24h and they do not dim it, you have a curtain for that but it still allows some light to peek through. Toilets were on the same floor but were musty smelling, humid, wet and had a certain stench. They did not provide slippers payable for 100yen. They provide 2 small face towels (daily) to be picked up at the front desk and gowns (shirt and pants). Depending on your capsule number, lockers are either in your room or right outside the room/lounges where it can be abit inconvenient to access your luggage/bags. One rack was available in the room which was shared by many other people who hanged their clothes and luggages there, mostly full. Washers and dryers are available for 300yen (wash) 100yen/30min (dryer). 2-3 cycles probably needed to fully dry your clothes. Written free detergent on the machine but had to pay an extra 100yen for detergent at the reception (10ml pack of detergent) which seemed to be insufficient if u had a full load of laundry. Overall i would not recommend staying at the hostel as someone who have stayed in 3 other hostels while in japan. This was my worst rated one, just had weird vibes. Pros are the convenient location within ameyokocho street with plenty of foods, bars, shops. Cons are that it isnt that clean, beds might have bedbugs (legs were itching profusely the whole stay with some bite marks that seemed to be bedbugs. Service by the overnight frontdesk staff were also nonchalant, did not bother to understand you if you didnt speak japanese other than the...
Read moreI booked this room whilst traveling with an old male friend and really would have preferred a mixed gender dorm so we could hang out more but there were none available. What we did not realize when booking was that there were also no facilitates for men and woman to be social together as the social areas are too also separated by gender. The gender discrimination I felt particularly miffed by was when I realized my (female) capsule room was more expensive than the male rooms and the men also had access to an onsen bath but the women do not. Perhaps, a fault of my own for overlooking this aspect of the hotel when booking but still not a great hotel to choose if you are a lady looking for a Japanese onsen experience. If you are fine with the sexist values and prefer to stay away from men this place is clean, quiet and comfortable and do provide you with pair of pajamas every night.Though I did not wear them because it was rather hot in my capsule pod so not good for me. Also, I found it hard to sleep because the main lights were shining and the curtain let some light through so not great choice for the light sensitive as I could not find a way to turn the light off at night. The ladies do have access to free toiletries, a dressing area with mirrors and hairdryers. Each guest has a key and a locker for valuables. On the second floor the ladies had a place to be social, a kitchen area with a microwave, a Japanese zen garden, coin operated massage chair and Japanese manga books. Overall, a clean and quiet stay with some frustrating elements as it did not really meet my needs or...

Stayed for 8 days from 30 Jun - 7 Jul 2023. Stayed on 7F (7 floor, top floor)
Pros: Capsules are generally clean. Staff will clean capsules every morning around 9-10am, unless you close the blinds to instruct them not to. Hot and cold onsen as well as sauna room is available. Lockers are large. Can fit my bag-pack and my bags of souvenirs. Stayed during summer period (off peak season), so not very crowded. May be more packed and the experience may be diff during peak seasons. Great location. 5 mins walk from Ueno station. Cons: ONLY FOR MALE GUESTS. Coz of the smoking area on 4F, there is a faint smoke smell on the capsule floors. I stayed on 7F and could still smell cigarette smell, so may not quite annoying on the first day. Subsequently, I got used to it. The counter does not do a security verification when handing keys to guests. I’ll just simply ask for my room number key and they’ll give it to me. It’s a public shower and onsen, so if you’re not comfortable, better not to stay. Capsule may be hot at times and no fan in room. Usually need to wait for aircon in hall to cool up the entire place. So normally I’ll just open the blinds to my capsule to let the cold air in...
