I spent a long time thinking about what rating to give, and in the end, I decided to leave just 1 star. The Soba itself wasn’t bad—nothing special, just average. Better than fast food chains, but worse than any decent restaurant. So why only 1 star and not, say, 3?
First of all, the attitude of the staff was completely unacceptable. I called the waitress twice, and both times she clearly saw me, looked me right in the eyes, and then just turned her head away and ignored me. It took at least five minutes for a different waiter to finally come over.
But the main reason for the low score is what happened after the meal. I got stomach pain that lasted around two hours, followed by heartburn that continued into the night, to the point that I couldn’t eat anything else that day. And if you're thinking maybe I ate something bad elsewhere—no, I didn’t. This was our first meal of the day, and my wife also felt discomfort in her stomach afterward.
I’ve never had this kind of reaction to Japanese food in all my years here. I don’t know what the issue was—maybe the chef made a mistake, maybe it was poor dishwashing, or just negligence because so many tourists eat here and never come back—but the fact remains: it made me...
Read moreThe food itself was ok and reasonably priced. The soba was a bit soft and spongy to my taste, but it was still delicious. The eggplant especially was amazing. However, the appetite was quickly spoiled by a couple that started fighting in the middle of dinner in front of everyone. By fighting I mean the man punched the lady in the face at least five times, was holding and twisting her hands for over ten minutes, sneaking punches and kicks on the crying and yelling woman. The water and other guests simply looked at the scene without doing anything. The cooks and waiters were looking at the punches but continued serving dishes like nothing happened!! My wife and I repeatedly cried for the staff to intervene but they just stood there. The man kept punching but the water didn't do absolutely anything to help the crying and yelling woman. When the man finally stormed out, the water came to us to explain that "the woman was bad and had to be punished by her husband". We we're shocked and quickly left the restaurant. Maybe it's part of the local culture, I dont know. But I will surely not return to this kind of place where staff does nothing when a patron is being violently and...
Read moreThis was my introduction to cold soba and it’s definitely going to be memorable for me. It was an extremely rainy night in Roppongi and I just wanted to relax and eat somewhere. I stumbled across this place twice while looking around and figured I’d give it a shot. I’m glad that I did. The kind server brought me a plastic bag for my umbrella and immediately sat me at a table. The menu was a nice thin hardback book. Luckily for me, it was translated in English and included detailed photos of many food items. I decided with shime saba (mackerel sashimi cured in vinegar) for a starter and the cold soba with shrimp tempura set. The sashimi was excellent. The flavor and texture of the fish really stood out. Cold soba was AMAZING. I’ve got to work on my slurping skills, but I really enjoyed my meal. I used google to learn how to eat it properly while I was waiting lol. Using the soba water to turn the dipping sauce into a soup/broth beverage at the end of the meal was awesome.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. I find it hard to complain when I’m provided good food and service. This place did...
