A very unfortunate experience for such an established restaurant.
I went to Benjamin's on Saturday, July 8 for my one year wedding anniversary. I called ahead about a week. It was a brand-new restaurant in Roppongi and I was excited to try it out. While making the reservation explained that it was our anniversary and I would like a special dessert plate including the Tiramisu and Keylime pie with a message.
When we arrived everything seemed to be upscale and high-quality. A nice atmosphere however rather empty for restaurant opening within the first few weeks.
When we started our order we had a few items we wanted which were already 86'd at 8pm on Saturday (Bibb Salad).
The trouble began when we had gotten through our meal and realized we had a bit too much to eat. I had ordered the prime rib Tomahawk cut and my wife had ordered the surf and turf. When we asked if we could take the leftovers home the waiter refused and said we don't do that. We had to call over the manager in order to resolve the solution. The manager came over and was nice enough to oblige though they didn't have any takeaway containers prepared.
The meal finished and we ordered a couple of coffees and anticipated our deserts. After 20 minutes of waiting I asked what the holdup was and they admitted that they had completely forgotten him about the order. I verified with them that it was place during my reservation which they said yes.
The manager took off the two coffees are but we were left with an anniversary night ruined by the service.
I do recommend the food if there was an option the same as Benjamin's NYC for take out or delivery of steaks but, never, ever what I recommend going to the restaurant.
There are plenty of other "Cuts above the rest" in Tokyo including BLT, Lawry's,...
Read moreIt was our last night in tokyo so we thought it would be great to enjoy a really nice meal. I had seen Benjamin's on YouTube and thought it was the place to go. Wished I'd checked the reviews first. We had made a reservation a few days before and decided on an early dinner. Even though we were the only people there at 5 pm, we were seated right beside the kitchen doors, probably the worst table in the house I could literally see into the kitchen, let alone ear them. The staff, in our opinion, were a little over attentive, there to refill our water glass after only a few sips and back with the drinks menu before you had even finished your last drink. Some people may enjoy instantaneous service. But we found it hard to relax with the staff breathing down your necks. The stake for two was a good size supposably aged but no better than one I could get at my local pub. Now I have no problem paying for a good meal, but the bill came in at just over ¥60,000 for the two of us. For that kind of money, I would expect a lot more, hence...
Read moreAdvice to Benjamin’s: try not to have any prejudice on your customers. ——- I often go there for dinner and love every dish they make (esp. T-bone steak, creamless cream spinach and of course their key lime pie which is probably the best in Tokyo). But last time I went with my work mates, one of their staffs (45ish? maybe manager?) treated us as if we were beggars. Didn’t cut T-bone steak correctly, facial expression was cold particularly when we were choosing the wines. They were also super slow to serve us esp. the dessert and once it arrived I had to wait at least 15min for my coffee. Please do understand that COFFE OR TEA MUST BE SERVED AT THE SAME TIME AS DESSERTS. I mean you don’t bring wine after you finish your steak right? For the first time, the service was poor. I am not sure if that’s because they did not appreciate my colleagues but still they are un-noisy intellects unlike those sugar daddy diggers who only order baby food. Anyways, now I feel like trying other...
