So, there we were, completely famished after a marathon bus ride that tested both our patience and our stomachs. The kind of hunger where you could easily mistake your own hand for a drumstick if you're not paying attention. 🍗
We finally landed in our Airbnb, dumped our bags, and did the only sane thing you do in such desperate times: we Googled for the nearest grub hub. That's when Bastardo Restaurant & Beer Garden popped up like a beacon of hope.
Just a hop, skip, and a jump away, and, by all that's holy in the universe, we were apparently the last diners they were willing to let in for the evening. Talk about sliding into home base!
Let me paint you a picture of this slice of paradise: seated in their garden area, under the strings of twinkling lights, the place was nothing short of enchanting. It was like stepping into a secret garden where the outside world's hustle just melted away. It triggered fond memories of time spent at "The Rustic Garden Cafe" in Fes, Morocco. If you've been, then you know.
Now, onto the main event— the food! I went for the broasted chicken, and my partner, bless their adventurous heart, snagged the Swedish meatballs. Let me tell you, it was a case of love at first bite!
That chicken was like a hug from the chef, perfect on the inside while staying shamelessly juicy on the outside.
And those meatballs? Divine doesn't even cut it—spiced just right and oh-so tender.
For once, we polished off everything on our plates. A rare occurrence, given that usually, we're the "Can I get a box?" type. The portions were spot on—not too little that you're left daydreaming of snacks, and not too much that you regret those last few bites.
My partner, caught up in the joy of the meal, declared (only half-jokingly) that he'd be willing to move to San Miguel just to have this as our go-to weeknight eatery. I mean, are we looking up real estate? Not yet, but ask me again after another visit!
So if you ever find yourself in San Miguel, do your taste buds a favor and drop by Bastardo. It's not just a meal; it's an experience that wraps around you like a warm blanket. Just maybe, try to arrive a bit earlier than we did—unless you want to add a dash of adventure to your dining...
Read moreBest name ever! Bastardos is a set up sort of like a trendy, upscale industrial spot for fine food and drinks and socializing. It is in a small “mall” of restaurants which share a large open area in the back where there are shared restrooms, a small area where kids can play, or for adults to maybe socialize in the fresh air. There are choices, but Bastardo is THE choice….especially if you only make it out there once. It is covered but open air for the warmer weather, with the ability to lower walls and turn on heaters when it cools. They offer a full bar with excellent cocktails and a nice selection of beer and wine. The food is impressive: beautiful presentation, and even better taste. With distinct flavors In complimentary combinations, every dish my wife and I tried was excellent. Leave room for dessert if you can! I put descriptions of our dishes in the captions below my pics. They do offer different specials for each day...
Read more⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a fantastic meal at Bastardo Restaurant and Beer Garden! I ordered the Korean BBQ chicken sandwich, and wow — it was packed with flavour, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. My wife had the half chicken dish, which came with creamy purée and a fresh, colourful salad — perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection.
The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, with both indoor and garden seating. The staff are friendly, speak both Spanish and English, and made us feel right at home. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, which added a lovely personal touch to the whole experience.
