I booked the Off-The Beaten-Track tour and couldn't have been happier. Our mixed group of 7 + guide enjoyed the drive and all the chances we had to get out of the van and take photos. At the end of April the weather had just turned warm and sunny and was perfect for a trip into the country. While this isn't a great trip if you want a detailed narrative of the history of the Netherlands, or even in-depth knowledge of the tulip industry, it is a relaxed and pleasant day trip during which you will get some history, some information about growing tulips, and a super friendly experience.
Highlights for me were the stop in Monnickendam to see the beautiful marina, canals, buildings, and clock tower, cruising around the Beemer Polder and stopping for photos of the tulip fields, and of course visiting the farm with the adorable animals, colorful fields of tulips and lunch.
There was plenty of time to walk leisurely, take photos, and ask questions. Lunch was a relaxed picnic of basic fare of cheese, charcuterie, and great bread. The apple pie was delicious, made even more special that it came from a cafe in Monnickendam that provides social services for adults with special needs.
Thank you for making this day very pleasant and comfortable while sharing your beautiful...
Read moreFirst class experience from start to finish. From my first email to Rory expressing interest in a tour, he was always so prompt and happy to respond to any emails/questions. Our family (with children) was able to take a private, fully customizable tour at the very end of March. I expressed to Rory our interest in seeing flower fields but knew the chances were low as it was almost certainly too early in the season. We were still more than happy to visit the windmills, countryside and tulip factory, which all ended up being fantastic and very interesting. However, since Rory knew we were interested in the tulip fields, he took the time to scout fields the week of our tour and actually found fields that had early bloomed flowers! Our family was absolutely thrilled to see them, and it made our trip. He absolutely did not have to take the time to do this, but it was greatly appreciated and shows how he goes the extra mile for his clients.
Our tour guide was Mehdi, who was absolutely excellent. Our family has taken many private tours around Europe, and we all agreed that he was the best tour guide we have ever had. He has a great energy and overall a very genuine person.
Bravo to this excellent local...
Read moreIs there anything more beautiful than tulips in the spring? Probably not!! And my friend and I were so fortunate to find a tour company that WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY to find us EARLY tulips blooming, put together a tour of a tulip farm and factory, as well! I truly can't recommend this company enough. Mehdi was our guide. Ask for him by name. A true gem of a human!! He made two middle aged friends feel safe, valued and spoiled. He LITERALLY made our picnic lunch in front of our eyes, took us to a gorgeous little farm to picnic at (see animal pictures), and entertained us with his witty banter and gracious conversational skills. My friend and I had to reschedule as we had both felt unwell the day our tour was originally planned. There was NO reason that Rory, the owner, didn't just say, "I'm sorry. No option to change!" But he and Mehdi were both SO very kind to understand our situation. Mehdi also introduced us to Rachel another of the guides. She was great too. Bottom line, don't hesitate to book with these people.
My one suggestion - bigger vehicles. But as most of Amsterdam are on bikes, four wheels seemed like...
