Alligator Pizza — Local services in Christchurch

I used to spend a month each year working in Manhattan and fell in love with New York style pizza. When i discovered Alligator, I came back for lunch three consecutive days. The dough is the perfect blend of crispy and soft and the toppings are not only tasty and fresh, but locally sourced. This isn't a chain or a franchise, its just a passionate pizza maker setting up shop in Christchurch. If you've never had "by the slice" pizza before, its a bit different. They make pizzas throughout the day and when you pop in you can pick a slice of your favorite pie which they will fire into the oven for the final caramelization. If you have the time and want a specific pizza not currently made or a full pizza, you can custom order, but the magic of by the slice is you can have hot pizza ready in a couple minutes. And... about the slices... they are massive. I'd estimate each slice is bigger than a small and almost the size of a full medium pizza at a regular shop. Alligator makes my three favorite kinds of pizza... big, fast...

Not only was this the biggest pizza I've ever seen, it was also one of the best. The pizza base sauce and quality ingredients really made this pizza, along with the delicious base. The meats didn't form little cups of grease, and in fact the whole thing was so ungreasy I could still comfortably type at my computer after eating it without worrying about greasy fingers! The base sauce had a really fresh home made taste to it, more like actual cooked and reduced tomatoes than the salty red paste used by a lot of other places.
