My experience with Fergs Kayaks Wellington was deeply disappointing and left me feeling unwelcome, excluded, and judged. From the moment I arrived, the staff made unfounded assumptions about my weight and repeatedly referred to supposed weight restrictions for their double kayaks—without ever asking for my weight or providing clear, evidence-based guidelines. As a person of colour, the repeated comments felt not only fat-phobic but also tinged with a lack of cultural sensitivity and understanding.
One staff member in particular repeatedly stated that they “normally” assist in pulling kayaks up but claimed they couldn’t in this case because “the weight was over the limit.” This remark was repeated several times, creating an uncomfortable, stressful, and humiliating interaction. The unnecessary focus on my body size, combined with their assumptions, made the experience extremely disheartening.
To add to the frustration, the website clearly advertised half-day rentals, yet I was told in person that rentals were limited to two hours. This inconsistency felt misleading and compounded the negative experience.
Overall, this was one of the most exclusionary and uncomfortable customer service interactions I’ve experienced. It is evident that Fergs Kayaks Wellington needs to reflect on their practices, particularly regarding inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and respectful communication. Everyone deserves to feel valued and respected, regardless of their body size or skin colour. Until meaningful changes are made, I cannot recommend...
Read moreIf you want to find a place near town for kids to have fun! Caution this is not the place!!! To make a long story short as we were waiting for the safety lesson a grown man said our kids cut him off from climbing , which he then yelled at our kids and proceeded to have a temper tantrum 🤣he literally ran off and told the manager. We started our safety lesson which we then had to be the people on the bottom holding our kids rope while they were harnessed in so we could not take any photos or enjoy our kids. To only be informed we needed to talk to a manager for risk assessment BORING AND WASTE OF TIME. They have no cameras and I said we would leave just give us back our money. So here are the solutions make it adult only but seeing as 95% of the customers were kids I think that would kill their business. Or have designated times for “real climbers”!!!!!!!! It was an ego trip and this joke of a manager played into this man child! Other then that Georgia was a great trainer I wish her the...
Read moreA great place and the customer service is normally 10/10. Today we had to wait to do a refresher and we were told we needed to wait for an instructor to be free. We were happy to wait but our issue was 2 staff members standing in front of us who were free, were looking at us knew we were waiting for a while. Another staff member told one of them to help us which they did. The staff member who did help us with the refresher was rushing through the steps and we felt she was not very interested in what she was doing or not interested in us. We ended up leaving after 2 climbs. The instructor we had the weekend before was excellent and you could tell she loved what she did and looked out for us. My daughter loves it here so we will probably...
