As a well travelled older couple (60+) we are used to a whole range of experiences. We booked the hotel via a well known website and paid in full then. I rang hotel to arrange after hours arrival and to confirm that payment had been made. It was confirmed that indeed this was the case. Arriving on a rather wild & windy night we accessed our room, dumped the bags and went for dinner. Upon our return to our room later in the night we found the shower head was broken so only about 1/2 the water actually reached us and it was only tepid. With no reception on duty & the late hour, we had no way to fix the issue. The following morning the water was at last hot and we managed haphazard showers. Upon checkout we advised the front desk and received blank looks and no apology - obviously a regular occurrence for them and they didn't care.
Deliberately asked when we left if there was to be any charge on our credit card (which HAD to supplied to gain after hours access), and was told that "no, everything paid in advance".
Imagine my anger when I checked my credit card account the next day to find that there was a charge for a nights stay! We have had 'double-dipping' charges in the USA but never in NZ. This is the first time and I honestly feel they were taking the p..s out of us. I had checked to see if the prepayment was processed prior to arrival and open departure and THEY STILL CHARGED US TWICE !!!!
It might be central, but it is noisy (rubbish trucks at 6am), the facilities are not reliable and the staff are uninterested in things. I would liken this to a backpackers accomodation in Athens where the favourite motto is "maybe today, maybe tomorrow".
BEWARE AND CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT - and older people, I would suggest a proper hotel may...
Read moreDo not stay here! We had booked in for a 3night stay and only stayed for 1 night. So disheartening what we had to experience after driving 7.5hrs for a nice family weekend away. We checked into the Gilmer Hotel Apartment where we found undies behind the curtain in our bedroom, the window in the bedroom was broken, hot water only lasted in shower for 5 minutes so only 1 person out of 4 checked in got to have a shower. When we looked at the hot water cylinder it had a leak and big hole in the cupboard ceiling. Going to bed i went to put my phone on charge (plug behind bed) so had to pull bed away from wall where I found ear cleaning bud. We stayed the first night as it was too late to check in anywhere else, once morning came we tried to get refund on the other 2 nights that we were booked in for. They agreed to refund the last night but would not approve the 2nd as the manager was overseas on a family holiday and wouldn’t be back for the next two weeks, we checked out and booked into another hotel. The service was a disgrace the manager is now back from holiday and will not refund the second night. He said the broken windows are due to a past earthquake and the hole in the ceiling is due to water damage from 3 years ago and have not fixed. No explanation for no hot water. Would not recommend at all the service we received is a...
Read moreThe rooms are nice, very clean and well equiped. Good TV and kitchen. However it is small (queen apartment, recommended for two) especially the bathroom. The location was central and away from clubs/noise which was good. The washer/dryer took hours to dry thin clothing we ended up using the drying rack and fan. I liked the “make up” face cloths. Scarlet the reception was really great at check in. Note: Car parking is not secure, they have maybe a dozen on the outside side of the building that they own, after that you have to park in the parking building across the road which the hotel organise, $25 per day. It isn’t manned, but they have security cameras from the hotel monitoring which wasn’t enough for us to feel it was secure. There is a luggage trolley which no one tells you about even if they see you with a lot of bags moving from the car park to your room, so ask for it. I think this place and the room we had is more suited for a business traveller or those looking for somewhere to stop for a night. Two nights was too long to be boxed in. You really need to get privacy blinds so people can open the curtains for some sunlight + aircon, a desk fan is not enough to cool the...
