FunPalau Holiday — Local services in Malakal

Pros: clean hotel with a private beach. Staff is friendly. Breakfast in the morning was satisfactory (nothing spectacular).

Things to watch out for:

If you are “lucky” to meet the chinese tours, then expect them to be sleeping on the lobby sofa. The hotel has put up signs in chinese not to lie down on lobby sofas. But does not seem to be enforced. (See photo of sleeping on lobby sofas)

Smoking on the private beach is apparently acceptable even though there is a designated smoking area. I just hope he didn’t throw his cigarette butt on the beach. (See photo of smoker)

I asked the front desk if we are allowed to leave luggage during our live aboard for a week and she said it was no problem. During check out they refuse for us to store the luggage saying they don’t have luggage storage space. Not a huge deal, but they should be clear about this upfront.

Although advertise with having WiFi. It only works in the lobby and you will get no signal in the room. Not really a big deal for me since I’m trying to get away! But just FIY.

I am not sure if I would stay here again. Although the beach is nice, I stopped using it when the Chinese tourist began smoking on the beach. Seeing all the chinese signs telling Chinese people to behave, it’s not a surprise (see photos of signs). So three stars for me and removed two stars for the smoking and sleeping in the lobby. I didn't stay at the hotel, but I did their water sports for a day. They offered a variety of fun water sports at a lower price than most resorts. Activities included flyboarding, jet ski rental, and a jet ski sled ride. Unfortunately I had 80$ stolen from my wallet while on their tour by what could only have been one of their staff members. So give them a try for the best water sports in Palau, but...

The hotel is pretty simple without any frills, but with a friendly staff. The rooms are OK, there aren't many amenities and the restaurant doesn't offer a lot of options.
