Ocean Hunter Palau — Attraction in Koror

Ocean Hunter III is a very nice, clean, comfortable boat. The captain of the Ocean Hunter boat and of the tenders were very safe and helpful. The meals were the best we have had on any liveaboard and we have been on many. There was never a repeat meal and there were several very tasty items to choose from each day. We felt extremely safe on the boats during the entire trip. The tender that took us each dive site was the best tender I have ever been on with very comfortable seats and extra storage under each seat. I highly recommend this boat for divers who have experience finding their own subjects to photograph, and who are good at self guiding. I say this because only one of the guides who dove with us every day was willing to help find and point out small subjects for us to see and photograph. Since this trip, I have heard from several other experienced divers that they had the same experience with different dive masters on the Ocean Hunter III, which is the reason I felt it important to mention here as it was not what we were expecting. We took the initiative to help 2 new divers find subjects so that they enjoyed their dives a lot more than they would have if we would not have pointed subjects out to them. Fifth and Not Last Ocean Hunter Trip!!! We came back in March from a magnificent week aboard Ocean Hunter III. As group leader, I chartered the whole boat for our group. We took Ocean Hunter III for the week starting March 18th to march 25th. The trip was amazing. The liveaboard itself was comfortable and superbly equipped for diving. The chase boat was fast and driven excellently, including top diver spotting and pickup after dives. The food was out of this world (As usual with Ocean Hunter trips....!!), plentiful, varied and yummy!!!! More like a five star hotel than a liveaboard...... And last but not least - The diving was great!! Palau remains for me one of the top dive sites in the world and the divemasters knew where to take us and how to provide a balanced variety of sites while keeping away from the crowds. The group loved every moment of the trip and keep thanking me for the experience. This was my fifth trip to Palau. Three times aboard Ocean Hunter I and twice aboard Ocean Hunter III. Definitely...

Je viens de revenir du voyage à Palau et je voulais vous faire un retour sur cette expérience. Il y a du bon et du moins bon...

Le bon:

Les sites visités sont tout simplement sublimes, les tombants sont magnifiques tant par leurs couleurs que pas leur état, rien n'est abimé et c'est très poissonneux. Une eau turquoise comme dans les reportages à la télé et surtout bien chaude (30C°) Le personnel sur le bateau est aux petits soins, au point de connaitre le prénom de chacun d'entre nous. Les repas sont très variés et bravo au cuistot et personnel de cuisine. De plus il y avait toujours des quantités suffisantes pour tout le monde. Les guides de plongées étaient excellent eux aussi, toujours les premiers pour plaisanter avec nous et en plongées toujours bienveillant à notre égard tout en nous laissant toujours beaucoup de liberté. Les plongées avec les Mantas étaient fabuleuses et les gros bancs de poissons très nombreux.

Le moins bon:

Tout d'abord vous nous avez vendu une croisière... ce qui n'a absolument pas été le cas. En fait c'était un hôtel flottant car le bateau ne s'est déplacé une seule fois, s'est amarré à une bouée et n'a plus bougé de tout le séjour, ce qui a eu pour conséquence de voir le même décor toute la semaine, mais surtout de faire des déplacements parfois long en speed boot, jusqu'à 1h A/R, ce qui au final ne nous laissaient que très peu de temps pour nous reposer entre les plongées. Des cabines standards très exigues, sans hublot ni aération (heureusement il y avait la clim).

Quant aux plongées, elles étaient trop souvent répétitives, il nous est arrivé de plonger 4x sur des tombants dans la même journée. Nous aurions aimé varier les sites comme de temps en temps plonger sur des épaves. Votre dépliant disait "voguez toujours plus au Sud, arrivé près des iles de Peleliu et Anguar, profusion d'épaves de bateaux et d'avions", mais rien de tout cela une fois sur place avec le speed boot. Nous avons dû quelque peu 'forcer" la main de nos guides pour faire une épave en plus, celle d'un petit avion dont nous avons fait le tour en 5 minutes... et c'était le dernier jour !

En conclusion, est-ce que cette "croisière" vaut le prix que nous avons payé, je ne le pense pas. Il est évident qu'à ce prix-là nous nous attendions à beaucoup mieux. En dépit des quelques bons aspects, je ne conseillerai certainement pas à mes amis plongeurs de faire cette...
