We make use of The Lounge through Discovery when we travel abroad. I have previously complained about the service, but this time it was excellent and only because of Ms. Phumzile K. We were greeted with a smile and she made sure our table was cleared timeously. She also offered to get us another drink and served it where we sat. She engaged other travelers and was courteous and friendly throughout. The food was ok – could be replenished and freshen up more often but our overall experience was very good. Thank you Phumzile! I rated it 5 stars because I really do like this lounge, for layout, style and design, functionality and for the excellent food and friendly and helpful service. However for the first time I actually have two complaints! The first was quite amusing. I do like hot and spicy food, but to my surprise today I had a chicken curry that was packed with chillies. It was so hot I actually got hiccups. I have not had anything this hot for some years and the last place I expected this dish was in an airport lounge! The second complaint is more serious. I have been waiting since 2017 for a replacement Voyager card. What is the problem SAA? You have staff who always seem willing to help but are somehow just not able to do so. I don't expect my dietary requirements to be specifically catered for, but I was very pleased on previous visits by the detailed allergen listings on all the foods and the fact that many options were kept separated (like a salad bar) which allowed me to put together a satisfying plate of food. Today I visited at breakfast and was disappointed by the options - not just with vegans in mind but also vegetarians and egg/dairy allergen sufferers. Some constructive suggestions to improve the breakfast offering: remove the cheese from the sautéed potatoes, add fried mushrooms, add a veggie sausage (Fry's family foods make a few frozen vegetarian sausages), add an egg-free and dairy-free muffin option of the three choices. When I visited there was only bread and baked beans in terms of savory, and fruit and cereal (I asked the bar staff for alternative milk) for sweet.
