Review: Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Disregard for Allergies
We recently ordered two breakfasts and had a very disappointing experience. One of the meals was specifically requested without any form of tomato due to a serious allergy. We made this extremely clear when placing the order.
After a 20-minute wait, the first plate arrived ice cold, and while there were no fresh tomatoes, it contained baked beans in tomato sauce — a clear oversight given the allergy warning. Not only were the beans not listed on the menu, but they were also an unexpected addition that posed a serious health risk. When we pointed this out, the plate was taken back.
To make matters worse, both meals were cold, and the quality was lacking — only about five tiny mushrooms per plate, and the extra fries we ordered were undercooked and tasteless.
When I called the manager over to raise these concerns, I was told the beans were part of the menu — which I then showed her they were not. A waiter chimed in that the beans were added to “make the plate look fuller.” The manager picked up a fry, acknowledged it felt undercooked, and then simply said "sorry" while holding out the card machine for payment — no real apology or attempt to rectify the situation.
After paying, we found the waiter joking and laughing with (what seemed to be) kitchen staff and other waiters at the entrance. When I told him to get his gratuity from which ever cook prepared our meals, their response was to speak in anAfrican language and laugh loudly, with one of them audibly saying “tsek" which stands for 'voetsek' which which is an Afrikaans insult or expression of dismissal or exclamation of disgust.
This experience was not just disappointing — it was disrespectful and potentially dangerous due to the allergy issue. We left feeling insulted and dismissed. I wouldn’t recommend this establishment to anyone looking for quality service, safety, or...
Read moreService very poor. . .waited long for 1 cappuccino after soft drinks were served. Took food order and only return after a long while to inform no beef patties anymore. Does management not communicate in advance with waiters if something is out of stock? Then at least this would have not lead to a 1 star for service. Staff does not look very happy to be there. Need to go find the waiter to ask for the bill finding her standing around the corner not having an eye over her service area after we said to cancel the whole order. All of this when the place is not even at 50% capacity. Do not even want to know what is its like at full capacity. VERY limited menu and prices rediciculious. The place can be defintly be worth a 5 star rating but this can only happen after management seriously give attention to the establishment and its service. Major room for improvement. We went to Byte Cafe afterwards just down the hall and received excellent service, extensive menu and the waiter could already inform while ordering about few items that were out of stock and gave explanation due to public holidays the suppliers did not deliver. The waiter came back and said they didnt have pizza. The drinks were taking quite long to come so we asked another waiter to check up on the order. The waiter then came back with the milkshake and americano and mentioned that their is no more chai latte available and that he was still waiting for them to make the freezochino as they thought I wanted a coffee milkshake by mistake.
(The freezochino tasted like water by the way)
It took about 15- 20 mins for the drinks to come from the time we placed the order.
Then we asked for water and the bill that took about another 15- 20 minutes.
Another table requested the manager as the manager was no where to be seen.
As people were complaining the waitresses were laughing.
I had requested that the manager come to my table. As multiple tables started complaining about the terrible service.
I walked up to the manger and asked him what was going on, he seemed very disinterested.
This restaurant should shut down, people are simply paying for terrible service. NOT...
