Arrived at ORTIA airside Jackson’s branch. Welcomed by waiter and shown to a seat, asked what I wanted to drink (a Coke Zero). At this stage I was impressed that the waiter had realised I’d want a drink straight away and put the order in early (after all in an airport you are always in a hurry).
After waiting for five minutes a staff member went past. I asked if my drink was ready and could I order some food? I reminded them I was waiting for a coke zero and ordered the “Big Cheese” hamburger.
After ten minutes I attracted another member of staff and asked where my drink was? He went off to investigate.
After 15 mins still no drink, so I asked for the manager (a young female) as I could not believe I still did not have a drink
she didn’t seem especially concerned, but sent a staff member off to bring me one.
the drink finally arrived!
then, a few minutes later, the “Big Cheese” burger arrived and what I got was this in the picture.
I asked the waiter how this could possibly be called “Big Cheese”? He remarked it had “extra cheese”. (Well I would beg to differ. Any less and it would be “No Cheese”)....
I really don’t believe this could be described as “Big Cheese” - “Minimum Cheese” yes, “Big Cheese” sorry no way. And “Minimum Slices of Very Processed Cheese” would actually be the most accurate description.
Avoid this place like the plague and try another ORTIA eaterie!
Note: I contacted the head office for Jackson’s Real Food in Bryanston. They informed me this company has no affiliation with them and had effectively hijacked their corporate id.
ACSA should be taking this stuff more seriously and not allowing companies with this poor service to operate in a supposedly world class...
Read moreI bought a colddrink and also wanted a glass of tap water. According to the person who served me "I will be fired if I do that. I can only sell you bottled water. The negative environmental impact of bottled water is significant and multifaceted in South Africa: Plastic waste: South Africa's landfills are overflowing with discarded water bottles, as the country uses over 1 million plastic bottles per minute. Less than half of these bottles are recycled, with the rest ending up in landfills or the environment. Resource depletion: The production and transportation of bottled water in South Africa requires large amounts of fossil fuels and freshwater. It is estimated that 3 liters of water is used to package just 1 liter of bottled water. Greenhouse gas emissions: The bottled water industry in South Africa generates significant carbon dioxide emissions through manufacturing and distribution. This contributes to the country's overall carbon footprint. Freshwater depletion: While over 90% of South Africa's bottled water comes from sustainable underground sources, the extraction can still strain local water supplies, especially in water-scarce regions. Cost: Bottled water in South Africa costs significantly more than tap water, with over 90% of the cost going towards factors other than the water itself, such as bottling, packaging, and marketing. Overall, the environmental costs of bottled water in South Africa far outweigh the benefits, making a strong case for consumers and businesses to transition towards more sustainable...

Jackson's at OR Tambo International Airport offers a truly pleasant dining environment with an ambiance that really hits the mark. The staff are equally impressive – attentive, friendly, and genuinely fantastic, contributing significantly to a positive experience.
Unfortunately, while the setting and service shine, the food itself proved to be average on my visit, and the prices are frankly insane. I opted for the burger and fries, and while the patties were notably flavorful, the burger as a whole suffered from being quite dry. This was a definite drawback to an otherwise enjoyable meal, especially considering the steep cost.
In summary, if you're looking for a comfortable spot with excellent service at OR Tambo, Jackson's is a great choice for a brief stop. However, be prepared for a significant dent in your wallet, and if you're a burger connoisseur, you might find both the food quality and the price point to be...
