El Rastro is a must-visit when you are in Madrid. It’s a huge open-air market with so many stalls, from antiques and old vinyl records to clothes, bags, souvenirs, and random treasures you don’t expect to find. The atmosphere is very lively, especially on Sundays, with locals and tourists walking through the narrow streets.

It can get very crowded, so it’s better to come early if you want to move around more easily. Prices are mixed, some good bargains if you look carefully, but also many regular shops mixed in with the stalls. Apart from shopping, just walking around is fun because the area has a lot of character, and there are plenty of cafés and tapas bars nearby if you want to...

A large sprawling market covering several streets. We arrived early and some parts were still setting up. Nevertheless it was good fun to wander around and see what’s on offer but it was mostly vintage clothing, bric a brac and some new clothes stalls. There was a heavily police presence when we visited - they appeared to be...

A unique Madrid experience / Une expérience madrilène unique

English: El Rastro is more than just a flea market — it’s an experience! Every Sunday, the streets come alive with colors, music, and a mix of vintage treasures, antiques, art, clothes, and quirky finds. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of life, with locals and tourists mingling in the heart of the city. Don’t miss the small side streets for hidden gems, and make time to stop for tapas nearby. A must-do if you want to feel the true spirit of Madrid!

A big outdoor market but the main street is just like a bazaar with normal (maybe high) prices. You should wander through the small streets if you want to see the real flea market things. Don't just walk along the main street. You probably would find anything you look for. It was nice to see retro and vintage things around.
