El Parnaso Cafe — Restaurant in Madrid

I have been going to this place for years, but today is the last time I'll ever walk into this place. It has gone downhill when it comes to service and friendliness, as I think it changed ownership in the last year. I went there with a friend to have dinner and a drink, and had to wait for a table, even though one was empty on reserve for 20 minutes. When we finally got a table, I was told tea is only available at the bar and not at a table. So I asked the owner if I could order a tea at the bar and bring it back to the table to eat with my dinner, but he told me I couldn't, and that only alcoholic drinks were available at the tables. I asked him what the difference is, when in both cases I'm spending money on a drink. I had arguments with three waiters over this illogical policy, when instead of making money from me, they were just creating problems. I'm a regular customer, bringing business to the place weekly, but will never go there again. I speak Spanish and have lived in the neighborhood for 7 years, so I wonder if they...

I came in for drinks around 1AM on a fairly slow Wednesday night. While inside, my purse was stolen off the back of my chair (while I was sitting in it). The owner seemed somewhat concerned, but couldn’t/wouldn’t check the cameras and told me to come back after 1pm the next day, which wouldn’t really help. He was also happy to still charge me full price for my drink after the whole episode. I hope they do check the cameras to identify the thief and keep them out in the future. Disappointing experience. More purse hooks on the underside of the tables would be very helpful to patrons so they can store their purse in front of them and prevent this from happening to others. No idea why the rating is so high. Yes, inside it is very cute, but had to wait 1.5 hours to get all our food, which was cold even though it wasn't supposed to be. And it wasn't that busy... Tried to cancel our last order as it was taking way too long and convinced not to. Wish we had because the toast with jamon and aspargeous was disgusting. It is rare to see people spit out food.
