Ali Baba Fırın Kebap is one of the best places to eat Konya Fırın (oven) Kebap, serving since 70's. Its name comes from the master chief, Ali İyigökler who is 76 y.o., and still serves to his clients with his 3 sons.

At first, you will not be impressed with the outlook of the restaurant. It is on a small street, where you barely park your car or you cannot at all. Once you step in the restaurant the smell of well-cooked lamb meat will surrender you. The best and the most delicious one is the lamb meat but it can be prepared with mutton, based on the season. The lamb is kept in the stone-oven for at least 5 hours. In Konya, there is a saying that "the meat should be cooked within the smoke of neighbor's fire", which means the fire should be very low to keep the meat yummy. It can be ordered as one or one and half (100 or 150 gr.) portions with an onion. They will not bring fork to the table unless you ask for, which I do not advice. One more tip: Never order 1,5. Eating like a local without using fork and knife will be a good way to feel the soul of the city and break your patterns. Greasy pita may be considered a heavy taste (if so ask them not to grease it) but they will bring the meat accurately as greasy as you wish. Do not try to compare it with any other dish. Simply the best "fırın kebap" in the city. If you are a meat lover, you should try this place. It is quite historic place and packed with locals regularly. They are not open on evenings, so you should plan for a lunch visit. My recommendation would be medium fatty piece from the ribs.

"Fırın kebab" is made from arms and ribs of the lamb. They are cooked without any additions in large wood ovens for hours. You order by weight and usually requires additional portions.
