EDIT: After the response received below from Luke I sent two separate emails to which I have received no reply. One was sent on the 26/11/24 and another sent on 01/12/24. The second email was sent as I saw the email he had gave me to contact him on was different to ones provided in other replies and I was unsure which was the correct one. So 10 days with no response, which is very disappointing.
Slightly disappointed with our experience at this escape room. Our group has attended a few escape rooms before and were excited to try this one on our trip to Birmingham. We booked the Jack the Ripper escape room and while some aspects of our experience were good, others left a bit to be desired.
Overall, the venue is really nice and the bar area is nice as well. The staff were friendly enough and the concept of the room we booked seemed really interesting.
When we arrived, we were given our debrief where we were told the room would be in complete darkness the whole time (apart from some lanterns that would be given to us) and we were also told the room would contain a few jump scares. This was not mentioned anywhere when we were booking the room and is something I feel customers should know before booking the room as it would’ve put me off if I had of known in advance.
When we entered the room, we were only given two lanterns between the four of us which made it incredibly difficult to look around for clues as we had to pair up so we could see what was around us. It also made it hard to see certain things around the room that you needed to see to get the answers to certain puzzles as vision was very limited.
Some of the clues in the room felt a bit random or slightly disconnected (can’t mention as I don’t want to spoil it) but it felt like some things were added without really making much sense or being thought through and were just a means to an end. We felt like a good chunk of the time we were stuck on where we should be looking or what we should be looking for which meant we wasted a lot of time. We felt we were left waiting too long without any guidance and when we asked for clues we were basically just told the answer which was very anticlimactic as most other escape rooms will give you a cryptic clue and not just outright tell you the answers.
The room did indeed have some jump scares and this did make me uncomfortable as I wasn’t prepared for this and don’t enjoy this sort of thing. There wasn’t loads but enough that I felt a bit unsettled.
Overall, while the concept of the room was great I think it was lacking slightly and sadly I don’t think we would...
Read moreWe did the Casino Heist escape room, and our host Jay was friendly at first when explaining the rules. However, during the game, we lifted a table because the messages sent to us on their phone led us to believe we were supposed to. Out of nowhere, Jay barged into the room shouting aggressively at us, saying we weren’t allowed to touch it. His tone was extremely rude and completely over the top for a simple misunderstanding. He then slammed the door on his way out—and because it didn’t close properly the first time, he slammed it again even harder, which really startled and upset us. His behaviour was not just unprofessional but genuinely disgusting and unacceptable for someone in a customer-facing role. This kind of treatment ruined the experience, and Jay should absolutely be reprimanded. To make matters worse, the entire building reeked of toilets (faeces) the moment we walked in, making it an unpleasant experience from the start. I’ve been to other escape rooms in Birmingham, and their facilities and staff were far better than what we...
Read moreI can’t thank the team at Escape Live Birmingham enough for making my experience truly unforgettable, but a very special shoutout has to go to Jay. From the moment I reached out, Jay went above and beyond to help me plan something incredibly special – my proposal. He took the time to listen, gave me brilliant ideas, and helped arrange everything so smoothly that it all went perfectly on the day.
The escape room itself was fantastic – exciting, immersive, and full of clever puzzles – but what really made the whole experience stand out was the personal touch and care Jay put into making it more than just a game. His professionalism, creativity, and genuine enthusiasm made me feel completely supported, and I’ll always be grateful for the effort he put in to make this such a memorable moment in our lives.
I would recommend Escape Live to absolutely everyone, whether you’re planning a fun night out, a team-building event, or even a once-in-a-lifetime moment like I was. And if you get the chance to work with Jay – you’re in...
