I’ve been attending classes since this gym opened 5 or more years ago (used to go first to SMA) - the quality of the classes are really in decline sadly.
The new app doesn’t allow you to write reviews for classes so here’s a couple:
the sound in the reshape studio is extremely loud, and trust me I have no issues with loud music, go to raves and gigs every weekends, but training under a speaker, wearing earplugs, and asking the trainer to lower their voice still doesn’t make it more bareable. I’ve done classes there before with lots of trainers and never had any issues. So please fix the speakers or train your team to be able to reduce sound levels.
the quality of the classes will be hit or miss. Quite frankly there’s a urgency to get your trainers up to speed, while the OG ones just keep being excellent, some others I’ve had just didn’t even seem to care, very odd programming, just not quite thought through.
I miss the old rumble room. Honestly the class in Oxford Circus has never been that great and combining it with strength training was never really exciting. Lots of members I know felt the same way, and it’s a shame you closed it to open reformer.
Reformer : what is going on here ? Some trainers would be doing really interesting work on the reformer bench, while others just program the most odd movements (that have nothing to do with the reformer and could just be done on the floor) I constantly see people not doing the right movements with the trainer absolutely unaware of correcting someone’s posture.
Also, please have a bit of flexibility on the way you manage people’s times… I did a reshape class yesterday and the trainer started 5 minutes late, I arrived 1mn late to a class today and was refused entry. I understand I’m the one who was late but life happens and if you’ve done induction before and are ready in your kit, that shouldn’t matter that much, many times the warm up doesn’t start straight away and having a team member facilitating someone to join a class that has just started (without bothering any other members) like many other studios operate it, would be a good idea.
The prices have raised although the quality of the service and the training hasn’t.
I was a loyal member for the last decade since saint mary axe, and it’s breaking my heart - but I’m now considering looking at...
Read moreDone three reformer sessions. Here's why two stars: the music is too loud and very often it's impossible to properly hear the trainer's instructions. I (and other people around!) ended up doing exercises wrong. It's especially annoying during exercises where one is turned backwards (I.e. can't see the instructor so has to rely on the verbal instructions without seeing the instructor in front of you) there are 25 (!!!) pilates machines in the studio, tightly packed next to each other. As a result, the trainers almost never adjust/ correct students as there is no way they can keep an eye on each of the 25 students! Today for example a student next to me was struggling to put the bar down, she motioned to the instructor trying to draw her attention / ask for help but to no avail - the instructor just carried on with the exercise, without noticing. I ended up helping Moreover, because the machines are so close to each other, during some exercises one is face-to-bum with their neighbour ... no emphasis on breath! Super fast, dynamic, loud music and disco lights simply don't pair well with pilates... Instructors do not put enough emphasis on breathing many showers are out of order code-based lockers get stuck often and one needs to get a receptionist unlock it after the last session of the day (last reforemer finshes 21:15, while the gym itself closes at 21:30), the receptionist performs countdown by rushing students via loudspeakers: "rebels, you have 10 minutes left... 10 minutes left... you now have 5 minutes left until the gym closure...". Really?? Just give people time to take a shower and get dressed without rush! Doesn't feel relaxing. not one star but two, because changing rooms and the studio itself are clean, smell nice, and shower products are...
Read moreThis place has amazing playlists and that is my favourite thing about it. It’s also v bougie and I love the way it’s all set up. Unfortunately I feel the people who run it here let it down slightly.. I haven’t felt entirely welcome the last few times I’ve been there.
The first class I went to, I felt pressured into something I didn’t feel comfortable with and although sometimes, this is the best way to get better at something, I didn’t feel this was a good approach from the instructor especially calling them out in front of everyone… As a first timer, this made me not want to come back!
The aesthetic of the boxing room is cool however it’s not very practical - it’s quite hard to keep up with the instructor and it’s hard to see exactly what they are doing especially if you’re not an expert! Then when you go to stretch, it’s pretty much pitch black and I couldn’t see the instructor at all.
Overall, it’s the customer service that matters the most to me. I ignored this the first time as I thought it might just be my perception that week and thought I’d go again. When I went again.. it was the same. This time, I didn’t feel reception were friendly at all. It’s such a shame because music in classes really matter to me and this is what these classes do really well but there’s something strange in there that doesn’t make me...
