I went to grind today for the first time with high expectations, however they weren’t entirely met. I will start with the brown sugar frappe being the best drink I’ve ever had! Absolutely loved it. However it was let down with the terrible service. On entering the host was dismissive and had a rude attitude. He did not greet us and did not interact. He took us to a table and put the menus down. We then asked if we could have a different table and he proceeded to explain the whole seating plan and then told us the available seats which we ended up selecting. We were given the brunch menu and we had decided what we wanted to order, at which point that same host came and took away our menu. We had said we were waiting to order and he just said he’s bringing new ones and walked off. Then we got the new menus, and after asking 3 different staff to order our drinks one finally came. They then explained that the menu changed when we asked what was happening. We then raised a complaint as we were not told about the change when we came and nor was it explained when we got our menus taken away. This was overall a disappointing experience, we had decided on the dishes we wanted, but nobody came to take our order so we ended up having our drink and went elsewhere to eat. The atmosphere was miserable, not a single member of staff seemed engaged, waiters were drinking coffees whist chatting to each other in front of customers. I understand it’s a chilled vibe, I just would have expected to receive some sort of service, especially when service is left on the bill after raising the concern. I will definitely be visiting grind again but definitely not this branch, the floor staff are extremely unprofessional and disengaged from their roles, but honestly the worst part has to be your host’s attitude.. the first point of contact.

On Wednesday around 1pm I went to buy coffee. I was in the mood to have it in a ceramic cup and sit outside. I also wanted food from next door, mr foggs. The outdoor seating of mr foggs and grind is right next to each other. I asked mr foggs if I can have coffee from grind and sit outside they agreed. I bought my coffee at grind and asked for a ceramic cup and told them i will be sitting outside. I was also carrying my bag which was heavy. I went and sat outside but was on the mr foggs side which was touching grinds seating area. The guy at the front came outside in a very rude tone and told me I cannot drink my coffee in the ceramic cup on mr foggs side. I apologised and asked if he could bring me a take away cup. He told me to go inside and get it. I told him I just sat down. He was very aggressive and told me to go get it again. Again I asked if he could as I just sat down (what he doesn’t know is I’m recovering from cancer and get tired very easily). He was extremely rude and said he needs to guard the front bearing in mind lunch time was nearly over and no one was sat outside. Eventually he went inside and came back with a beer up for a hot coffee to be petty. He didn’t even give me a second to process and was coming to take my coffee (something I have paid for not him). I just poured my coffee into the beer cup and he grabbed the ceramic cup and walked off rudely. Kindness goes a long way. He could’ve have approached me (the customer) who made a innocent mistake. All I needed was a takeaway cup not a rude attitude and a beer cup. The staff need more training at that place.

Grind is a popular spot for Sunday brunch. Their bottom less brunch (ninety minutes of all you can drink prosecco, margarita or spritz) attracts big groups of customers making the atmopshere at Broadgate Circle lively and at times very loud. The interior of this location is large, with ten outside tables. Breakfast dishes are available until noon with classics like avocado on toast, yoghurts, burritos, full breakfasts, french toast, and pancakes. The drinks menu is dominated by unique lattes including: turmeric, beetroot, charcoal, and butterfly pea. You can also get cold-pressed juice and smoothies which start at £5.50. Unfortunately the flat iron chicken (£19.50) was disappointing. The chicken skin was fleshy (not crispy), the meat bony and the vegetables where more trimmings than a proper slide. The french fries where great - crispy and steaming hot. The service was friendly but erratic. A great spot for group get-togethers and a cup of coffee. If you are after good food go somewhere else.

A Birthday brunch ruined:

We had planned ahead and reserved an outdoor table for a birthday celebration. During our wait, we were made aware the kitchen was soon due to close so we ordered all the food at once. One of us also requested that all the food be brought all out at once.

We were informed that the wild mushroom hash was no longer available and so we swapped this and ordered crispy calamari, keeping in mind that we were told that several dishes were all out of stock.

Whilst all the other tables were being served, including those that arrived long after us, and around forty minutes later, we eventually received two of the items (croquette and crispy calamari) despite having requested all of the items be brought out together.

The food was served despite us not being given any cutlery or napkins until we requested. The waiter we had was abrupt and did not check in on us even once after we ordered. Eventually after an hour wait for the rest of the food, we were told that the kitchen was closed and the Wi-Fi had gone down which was why we didn’t receive any of our food. Meaning that the order was not registered to the kitchen.

The assistant manager on site was helpful and attempted to find out what went wrong. We were absolutely appalled and frustrated at the situation and lack of care for us as customers. We have been here before and have never experienced such poor customer service and neglect. We left hungry and frustrated after so many hours sitting in the sun with little to no help or assistance. We were the only people affected by this situation and was puzzled as to why only two of the dishes ordered went through the system and the rest was somehow ‘lost’.

We were severely inconvenienced and was so upset that our friends birthday was ruined by Grind! We were really looking forward to eating here and we would like to be able to make recommendations to our friends and network but we are unable to do that when we are met with such awful experiences.

Especially as minorities we would like to experience the same standard of service as and...
