Whether you are considering attending your first dance class, contemplating returning to dance after a break, or looking for a dance company that will let you explore different genres of dance in a non-judgemental and supportive environment, I can highly recommend KMDC.
I personally attended my first KMDC class one year ago and was initially drawn to the range of classes on offer. Weekdays are dedicated to k-pop dance, with students given the opportunity to suggest and vote on the dances to be taught in class. As a result, each month’s schedule features a great selection of popular and trending k-pop dances, lesser known (and usually challenging!) dances, and special solo dances performed by artists like Jimin and Jungkook.
However, my favourite classes are the Saturday evening original choreography classes! I love that these classes give the instructors an opportunity to showcase their favourite genres of dance and help students build a good foundation in the dance genres that have inspired k-pop dance. Original choreo classes are typically at a beginner-intermediate level and feature a fusion of various genres including contemporary, hip-hop, afro, commercial and jazz. Given that our instructors—Min and Maria—are not only good dancers but good teachers, I have experienced a marked improvement in my quality (and my enjoyment!) of dance. I also want to specifically recommend Yerin’s Korean traditional dance classes. Before joining KMDC I had never considered trying Korean dance but now it has become one of my favourite styles that I enjoy incorporating into my dance.
While dance is a very important aspect of my life, it is KMDC’s friendly and diverse community that has kept me returning to classes every week. KMDC’s supportive environment has made me start feeling comfortable asking questions during class, begin to feel less self-conscious performing class choreo in small groups, and feel free to explore and express my individuality while dancing.
I’m really excited to see this community continue to grow and hope that in the future KMDC can help more people not only become more confident dancers but more...
Read moreIt's hard to describe in words how meaningful my experience in KMDC has been so far, but maybe the word family encompasses all. I had just moved to London and had no friends yet and when I decided to try a few dance studios I was surprised by how welcoming KMDC was. I started the rookie classes and even though I had very little experience in dancing I found the classes not intimidating at all; they were easy to follow and challenging in a good way. I soon found myself going to all the rookie classes and approaching the general classes too. All the teachers at KMDC are patient, fun and focused on giving space to every student to improve and find their dancing style. Maria is so sweet and passionate in her way of teaching and her classes are so chill and so much fun! Min's way of teaching is super precise, he breaks down even the most difficult choreos in easier movements so that even beginners can follow and gain confidence. And his cheering during the classes is always motivating! Yerin dances beautifully and is amazing at teaching the breathing techniques of Korean traditional dancing. I only had the chance to go to one of Mickey's classes and it was so fun that I hope I'll be able to go to many more of his classes. My first year in London was meaningful especially thanks to KMDC, it would not have been the same without them. I danced my heart out, I became more confident with my dancing, I found new close friends that are now like family, I cried when I said goodbye to them after moving back to Italy and I laugh everytime I come visit them. I'll forever be grateful to...
Read moreMin’s Kpop group was one of the first dance classes I had ever taken. Back then I was a nervous amateur who did not know anyone. Two years later, I’ve gotten to know so many people and now look forward to the classes as the regular highlight of my week!
Min’s classes will challenge you to move in ways you haven’t before and while that might seem intimidating at first, the positive energy and excellent teaching will show you that you’re more capable than you thought.
Min’s style of teaching is to meticulously break down the hardest movements so that you learn how your body can complete them. You will begin with slightly slower music and gradually build up to a faster and faster pace.
Finally, there is usually filming in the last 10-15 minutes, which could be intimidating if you’re just starting out, but I suggest to really push yourself - everyone is incredibly supportive will cheer for you every step of the way! Of course, no one will force you to do anything you do not want ^^
If you go to Min’s classes, be prepared for a busy atmosphere with...
