Gold engagement ring turned silver

The team were welcoming and accommodating when I first went into place my order. They facilitated the design of a two tone engagement ring which I designed, they got the ring made and all seemed well. Until it didn't anymore... We took the ring in to get resized after a week or so. I was told it would take 3 days... It took 2 weeks. I was told it was free, but when I collected it they tried to charge me around £50 for hallmarking the gold where they cut the hallmarked section off. We overcame this, and after close inspection the ring seemed fine, the hallmark was there and all was inspected under a loop. The person who handed me the resized ring was unsure if I'd paid for the engagement ring and infront of my fiance asked if I'd paid and explicitly stated the amount, never felt so uncomfortable and totally was inappropriate to discuss money infront of my fiance. You should get more organised, you should know what's been paid and whats not.

After wearing the ring for a few weeks we started to notice a single silver patch in the yellow gold section which gradually became larger, as the days went by we noticed spots that were yellow turning silver. Naturally we were panicked and took it back to Shining Diamond. The three members of staff there were just as suprised and said that they would get it rectified, preference being a replacement and they all agreed that it is the only way forward. After more than a week we followed up and they said they were able to polish the silver bits off. I explicitly said that we were no longer confident in the ring and wanted a replacement. Clarice made it clear that she understood where I was coming from and said that she would see to a replacement. More than a week goes by again and we follow up to hear that it was taken to an independent jeweller to be checked and they confirmed it was yellow gold and not white gold plated yellow. They think it was caused by dripping rhodium on to the yellow band, which must have been covered up... Or they've replated it yellow. I can honestly say if you want to take the shine off of your experience then do go shop here. I thought I'd found the family jewelers but I was totally wrong.

I collected the ring today and informed them that after being without it for so long we would take it back and that I would be writing up my experience online. They supported this review and therefore here it is... this has been my experience buying an engagement ring from Shining Diamond.

Just a note that is of suprise that a replacement band would have cost them nothing really, if they have it at cost and have the material from the original ring it would have been peanuts to provide assurance and a satisfying experience. We're sad...

Well where do I start, you can tell this isn't your ordinary run-of-the-mill review as I'm actually writing this 5 months later, so for that I apologise 😇 but it also means the excitement and satisfaction still remains as high as ever!

I have been down to Hatton Garden quite a few times now and visited many different stores (practically been into every store over the years) as you shop around for the best option for you. However, my best ever experience and purchase (by far) took place at Shining Diamonds.

I ended up in this store on a whim supporting my brother, who was searching for an engagement ring whilst I was looking for a new diamond ring for my pregnant wife (as a push present). From the moment we walked in, it was obvious their customer service is on another level. The care, time and patience Clarice showed was something I had never experienced before, she is someone who genuinely gets joy out of helping others. Her attentiveness and guidance is exceptional too. Clarice and Eleanor really want your experience to be special and understand the pivotal role they play in other people's lives. When I came into the store to pick up the ring with my wife Eleanor helped make the unveiling so special, thank you for that.

Most places do not offer the level of after care and support that Shining Diamonds provide and that's so reassuring when making such a big purchase. The prices are competitive and they are happy to price match too.

My previous visits and purchases at Hatton Garden have often left me with a sense of regret in one way or another but this is the first time I was fully satisfied in every aspect.

I would definitely go back and recommend to anyone. If Carlsberg made diamond stores then it would be Shining Diamonds! :)

My partner bought by accident a wrong size engagement ring from Shining Diamonds that costed him over 6k! When attended to resize the ring, was immediately met by a extremely abnoxious and derogatory manager who failed to introduce herself or congratulate on engagement for starters, but proceeded saying : well you won't get your ring back till the end of January and then continued talking on the phone. Then I was given a list of T&Cs to sign just to resize a ring! Basically they are not responsible for anything, including you have to pay £35 if they remove hallmark during resizing! When questioned why would one have to pay this after spending over 6k? Responce from same manager: well, people spend 20k and pay this extra charge too! So how much does one need to spend, for you to respect me as a customer? Excuse me, but I bought diamond platinum rings before that needed resizing and never have I ever recieved such a poor customer care and service! I had never had to pay any extra cost for resizing nor hallmark, in fact I would be greeted with a smile, offered a glass of champagne and made comfortable! Such a petty charge of £35 in comparison with what you've just spent, is a joke! Shining Diamonds should be ashamed asking for this charge, you should be covering this small cost as a gesture of appreciation and respect towards your customer for chosing your store and being greatful that someone just sent thousands of pounds and potentially would spend more in future!

One thing is for sure, I will not be choosing this store to purchase my wedding rings or any other jewellery at any point in future and I highly recommend to other customers to avoid Shinning Diamonds at all costs too. You deserve a better...
