This first time visiting “the Hatton” pub, arrived around 4 on a Friday night to meet up for a drink with work friends from far and wide, the pub was quiet to start with so drinks were easy to get at the bar, their was a large works Christmas party that turned up later this meant the bar became incredibly busy, the bar staff were working really hard to get to everyone but it was slow but nothing they could do the staff were working really hard to get to everyone as quickly as possible. The atmosphere was buzzing in there that Friday, with lots of laughter and everyone being friendly and enjoying their night out, the seating area out the front of the pub was large mostly undercover and would be a great place to enjoy a drink or food. I personally didn't eat there but the food did look very nice. The downstairs bar was also booked out for a Christmas function so didn't have the chance to go in there but that looked nice. Will definitely be making this a venue for another drink. Being in the print, hence why I chose the Hatton a few of the older guys remember the pub being built so there was lots of talk about how it used to be a department store before, the printers and engineering staff if the print didn't really go in the Hatton as they didn't like them wearing their overalls in there😂. Still great pub did get loud in there towards the end but this all added to...
Read moreHave been here three times now, each time for a pre-booked event in their 'Function Room'. The first time was good, the lower bar set up and signed out for those in our party, staff attentive, food good.
The second time, we had to go and find the staff to open the bar up for us, and when spoken to they seem to have no idea that there was anything going on. Once in however, food was good and table service offered.
Third time however, the booked area was locked up. Eventually managed to speak to a member of staff by waiting at the bar, only to be rudely told that "They didn't have the staff" to open the lower area. When pressed about the fact that it had been booked, the staff member in question (a red-headed 'gentleman' - I use that term very loosely) simply replied that it wasn't his problem as he turned away to serve a business man who was harrumphing about being made to wait. The upper bar was too full for our group of 15+ to make use of, so we were left outside in the chilly, windy smokers area. Many of the group simply left at that point.
The venue itself is not too bad, and the food is good, but the staff ultimately ruin the experience with their "can do but can't be bothered to" attitude to customer service. After this third experience, I will NOT be taking my business there again, nor would I recommend...
Read moreWe work on High Holborn over the road from The Christopher Hatton and often spend our Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes there. Our group size ranges from 5 people to 20 people depending on the occassion!
We love the meal deals where you can have a sandwich and a pint for £10. The staff are very friendly and very attentive. The food is good too, very quick and tasty!
We also visit after work a lot on Thursdays and it can tend to be difficult to get a table as its so busy, so I think on Thursdays especially they should open up the bar downstairs perhaps?
In the summer the outside is always rammed, so perhaps a pop up beer tap to get served pints faster would be good? Also a few more tables for the summer months.
Over all we absolutely love the pub and spend probably way too much time there, the only reason we ever choose a different pub as a group is to watch sport. Unfortunately the Hatton doesnt show any sports, not even terrestrial tv sport like the FA cup. If they could especially this summer with thE Euros and Olympics, Wimbledon etc that would be AMAZING.
Great pub, brilliant staff,...
