I had a deeply upsetting experience at this Superdrug store today that left me feeling humiliated and discriminated against by the store manager on a Tuesday around 2pm.
I went in during my lunch break to buy a plastic dermaplaning tool, something I’ve bought from this exact store multiple times before with no issue. This time, however, the person was already quite condescending and rude while i asked her for the price ( since it didn’t show any price tag, and none of the dermanplaning tools in the store had one). After that she made a rude remark and then I was suddenly asked for ID, I’m 24 years old and visibly over the age requirement (18). I explained that I was on my lunch break, didn’t have my physical ID with me, but had both a photo of my passport and my ID on my phone. The staff member still refused to sell the product. To make matters worse, she wasn’t polite or apologetic. She laughed at me, made me feel like I was doing something wrong, and even threatened to make me leave, over a basic pink facial hair grooming tool. There was zero attempt to find a solution or even speak to me with respect. I felt judged, dismissed, and unnecessarily intimidated. I understand that staff might say they’re “just following the law,” but let’s be honest, this was a small, clearly harmless plastic tool, and I am a grown adult. Also an item that I have bought many times in the same exact store without any issue. In the seven years I’ve lived in the UK, I’ve never been asked for ID for a dermaplaning tool . This felt less about safety and more about a staff member misusing a policy just to assert power and make a customer feel small. There’s a big difference between following rules and weaponising them. This kind of inconsistent and patronising treatment is not acceptable, and it’s certainly not what I’d expect from a brand...
Read moreStaff seem to think it’s okay to follow only black customers. Both myself and another women were shopping just after 5pm. She was in uniform as she’s probably just finished work and myself in corporate wear. At first I thought it was a coincidence that they happened to be in every aisle I was in. But as I queued to pay they did the same to this other lady who came in after me. While other customers seem to have been left alone One of the staff who started following me stopped packing shelves to do so. Not sure if this was at the request of her manager who was behind the...
Read moreI come here regularly, as I work across the road. The excessively pushy sales tactics have become so ridiculous, it's borderline comedy. The process of paying for items can take a good 5 minutes while routinely declining every promotional offer they can throw for what is essentially a load of worthless tat piled up on the cash desk. For the 10th time... no, I'm not interested in the buy one get one free Barbie branded toothbrushes. [31 y/o male...
