I came in for a wash and blow dry (very straight forward). I wasnât expecting a super smooth blowout, I just wanted to prep my hair for getting box braids the next day. I was excited to try a local salon that specializes in afro hair.
I arrived 15 mins early but I wasnât seen by a stylist until approx 20 mins after my scheduled appointment time. Not a big deal as I wasnât in a rush to be anywhere, I was glad once I was finally in the chair.
However, my stylist was doing another clientâs hair whilst doing mine and what should have taken 45 mins took nearly 2 hours.
My hair was washed, conditioned and detangled with a tangle teaser. Then I was left at the sink for an extended period of time while my hair dried and got tangled again. At some point I was asked to sit off to the side on a stool with my hair dripping since another stylist needed one of the sinks.
Shortly after I sat down in the chair, my stylist she said to her other client âIâll be with you shortlyâ. I have shoulder length 4B hair, it takes a long time to blow dry so I was nervous when she said this.
She went in with the blowdryer + comb attachment and started raking through my hair. It was tangled and I could hear/feel my hair breaking. About halfway through I asked if she could please detangle it, to which she replied âwasnât it detangled earlier?â I said, yes they did but since quite a bit of time passed my hair dried and tangled again. She detangled it and it was ok from there. Then she suggested that my hair wouldnât get so tangled if I got regular trims or if I had chosen to do a moisture treatment. I told her I got it cut 2 months ago.
When I was done she asked if I wanted it in a ponytail. She struggled to get it into the hair elastic which should have been a sign that the blow dry wasnât done very well. Iâm surprised she was ok having me walk out of the salon looking like that.
I am sure she is capable of doing a good job styling 4B hair. I think she was just running behind schedule and decided to rush through my hair since I booked what should have been a simple service.
I could have done a better blow dry myself but I wanted to go to a salon as a treat after a long couple of weeks. I ended up leaving feeling worse than when I came in.
It was an upsetting experience as it wasnât cheap and my hair was done by a senior stylist (I wonât name shame). The worst part is I was charged extra by my braider the next day because she had to blow dry my hair again because it wasnât stretched out enough for her to braid.
The atmosphere was nice and everyone there was friendly. I rarely write critical reviews and I really wanted to like this place but I think this needs to be said. I wonât give 1 star because I know theyâre a new salon (I think one year old). I think they can improve by allowing more time between bookings so that they arenât rushing.
I notice there are only 5 star reviews here so hopefully my review doesnât...
Read moreHonestly, I wished I could give more stars, I absolutely LOVE everything about this place.
Being mixed race, I've always had issues with finding a place that can deal with my hair, if you know what i'm talking about, then you know the struggle. Endless salons never knowing what to do, then having an attitude because of it. Only able to cut once it's straightened or blown out. Rough as hell because they can't get the brush through with one glide. Finger combing while ripping hair because they are rushing. But now ...
I've never felt so relaxed & comfortable with someone dealing with my hair. I had the amazing Dillan. He asked the best questions to get to know what exactly I was looking for. If I defuse or air dry? What products I use & the type of issues i'm having, to advise better ways to achieve what I want. His many years of experience comes through perfectly, I wish I had been going here throughout my curly hair journey. It would have made me â„ my journey alot more.
Floria was wonderful too.
To be honest the experience was perfect. Good vibes, excellent experience. Feel like I have now found my forever salon which I couldn't be...
Read moreI donât normally leave reviews but for this salon I will certainly take the time to. They are just fantastic, Iâm recovering from cancer and as such my hair is on a new journey. Firstly I was met with smiles and a warm welcome when I entered for my appointment and to my shock the stylist was ready and waiting to start my hair (no delay whatsoever). We discussed my situation and she immediately suggested what we could do (she was super friendly and in no way pushy). Another stylist then proceeded to give me the best wash my hair and scalp have ever had with a bonus head massage (not sure if it was but it certainly felt like it, almost fell asleep). Without going into too much step by step detail, this is an amazing salon and very reasonably priced. To be honest I would gladly have paid more for the service they gave. Iâve not been to a more amazing salon. End result was amazing too, had a slightly tapered cut and she showed me how to start maintaining my natural hair myself. Considering I am travelling from pretty far I will have to rejig my schedule to try and get there at least for alternative wash days because these ladies are...
