Unfortunately not the hair salon for me. I prefer a stylist who knows all hair is NOT the same and should not be treated as such. I have 4b/4c, medium density, medium porosity hair that tangles easily; especially if it doesn't like a particular product. At home I use detangling shampoo and conditioner (Design Essentials) that works very well. Since COVID I have been trimming my own ends so I wanted a professional to evaluate and trim my ends if necessary and after reading the reviews I called to make an appointment. Ada answered the phone I told her I wanted my hair washed and conditioned, and my ends evaluated for a trim. I also explained that my hair tangles easily. She stated ok and we made my appointment for a Monday. FYI- Ada did NOT do my hair. My hair was washed and styled by 2 women that work there with her, one washed, conditioned and detangled it and the other one blow-dried and styled it with a flat iron. PROS: Great customer service. Everyone I encountered was very nice. The shop is very nice and clean. Only a 5 to 10 minute wait for service. My hair was washed 3 times and deep conditioned (sat under the dryer for 20 minutes). The stylist turned the heat down on the blow dryer as I asked (Ada translated for me). I knew to ask her to turn the heat down because when I was sitting under the dryer with my conditioner she blow-dried another customer's hair and I could tell by the amount of smoke that the blow dryer was super hot. The stylist did a great job styling my hair with a flat iron (lower heat). My hair was BONE straight and silky. CONS: The washer didn't scrub my scalp well especially the back, so I didn't feel like my scalp was clean. My hair didn't like the shampoo and conditioner used and was super tangled; detangling products were not used for my hair. The detangling process was very painful (grammatically speaking; she really was trying to be gentle) for me and the washer. At one point I turned to her to let her know I was uncomfortable with the process (it was as if she was ripping my hair with every stroke) and asked her to use a detangler. But she didn't speak English so she spoke to Ada (who was putting relaxer in a customer's hair 4 feet away) Ada translated to me that the washer stated my hair is fine and tangles easily. I then told Ada that I informed her of that on the phone (clearly she didn't make any notes when booking the appointment with me). My curl pattern is looser and has minor heat damage. I use to have about 75% shrinkage now I have about 40% (1 wash/condition so far) and a couple of coils has straight sections in them. Not a 'hair goals' conscious salon Bottom line - I need a stylist who cares about my experience as it relates to their services, cares about the health of my hair, knows what a detangler is and knows too much heat will damage my coils. Until then I will continue to do my own hair,...
Read moreAfter an awful experience where Hair Cuttery blatantly stated they would charge me more because my daughter is bi racial, we ended up finding Ms. Ada. 50000 GOLD STARS-- MS ADAS TEAM IS AMAZING.My daughter normally cries and having her hair done is a miserable experience. NOT A SINGLE TEAR TODAY AND SHE IS OVER THE MOON!!! I have never seen such a phenomenal blow dry technique...I've literally paid more to not be that straight after a blow out AND straighter!! Ms Ada depe ds only on her own technique and skills, using the straightener as a finishing tool to enhance HER work. My daughters hair is full of silky movement and absolutely stunning.we walked down the street to get some pizza and my daughter said, I CAN FEEL IT BLOW!!!! She was amazed. MS ADA YOU HAVE US FOR LIFE!!!!!
Edit--- I've read some of the reviews about heat damage. I don't get it. Yes there was high heat when she was doing Jenna's hair but I watched her use protectant. And there's no way Jenna would have had the movement she has when we left if it had been burned... Jenna's hair feels great, she even said how cool it was to feel her hair blow in the wind... burnt hair wouldn't blow like that. And as far as Ada not knowing what she is doing with 4c hair....WHHHHAAAAT?!!! IM BLOWN AWAY BY THAT. She literally spent 5 min on detangling, that's it! The wash team did that great of a job, soooo everybody can have an opinion BUT MINE IS ADA IS A SERIOUS PROFESSIONAL WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU AND YOUR KIDS...
Read moreI went to this hair salon months ago around April or May of 2023. It’s now December and I still have heat damage from this visit. I usually don’t go to the hair salon but I decided to get my hair done here because I was referred by someone. I have shoulder length natural hair and was charged $100 not including tip while the person that referred me only paid around $80 including tip. All I asked for was a blowout and trim. Reading these reviews I realized that this stylist charges extra for someone with natural hair. I would not recommend anyone to come here. It took her around 30 min to do my hair and it would’ve been less if she wasn’t doing other things. When I washed my hair my hair smelled really burnt for about a couple of weeks and was severely damaged when I washed it the first time. My hair was breaking all over the place. If you take care of your hair and love your hair I would not recommend coming to this salon. She will ruin your hair. Also for my visit she made comments about my hair about how it’s dry and curly/ natural followed by weird looks on her face and I found that weird because the stylists hair texture is...
