Von Maur is a wonderful experience every time I go, but I wanted to take a moment and share how awesome Dawn was to my mother and myself.We went shopping for an upcoming trip that my mother will be taking with my sister. New clothes, new shoes, handbags (thankfully there were handbags designed specifically for concerts) , and make-up. Dawn was at another counter when we started looking and not only did she find everything my Mom needed, but she also recommended some items that are perfect for a trip.

We thought we were all done and then Dawn shared that we could participate in a special giveaway if we could just wait a few days and come back to pick up our items. We did and the add-ins were phenomenal! If you haven't tried Juliette Has a Gun, I would totally recommend that now that we've had a chance to try it out.

We spent quite a bit of time with Dawn, identifying the best cosmetic products for the trip, testing some recommendations, and getting the win by waiting a few days and returning to a bunch of wonderful gifts.

The environment is nice enough for a mall department store. The staff are friendly and willing to help you find whatever you need. Unfortunately most everything you need and find here will be extremely pricey and night not even look good. There was a shirt on sale once that looked like it belonged in a 1980's techno night club commercial trying too hard to appeal to the young folks. When I went to see how much it was on sale... $283. Yikes... They do have some very nice stuff, but it seems to mostly be just for the fall and winter seasons, while the spring and summer get the weirder looking things you usually wouldn't buy, even for a buy 1 get 1 50% off sale at Goodwill.

My final comment is the company seems a bit... Untrusting... Of darker skinned customers. I've walked through it multiple times with friends who match that description, and we seemed to be followed or at least closely looked after by employees than when I would be in there by myself, even in my tattered work...

I came in today to buy pajamas for a bachelorette weekend and left feeling really uncomfortable. While I was browsing, a sales associate came over from the register to point out where the plus-size section was. I was caught off guard and asked her to repeat herself, and she told me again where the plus sizes were. I hadn’t asked for help, so the comment felt unnecessary and honestly a bit embarrassing.

When I checked out, she asked if the pajamas were a gift and questioned the size I picked. For the record, I got a large but probably could’ve gone with a medium. There’s nothing wrong with being plus size, but having someone assume that without being asked made me feel self-conscious and uncomfortable.

It was just a really disappointing experience, and honestly, I wish I could go back and return what I bought. Von Maur should really consider training their staff on how to approach customers with more sensitivity...
