Horrible experience & terrible customer service. My beautiful engagement ring was purchased at Maneke before they closed. We loved Maneke and always had positive experiences. I just got engaged within the last week and my ring is slightly too big. We decided to go to Riniger yesterday as it is at the same location. I walked in and a lady who was wearing her hair up with short bangs assisted us (she never told us her name). She was rude from the very beginning. I explained to her that I felt my ring was a bit big and asked her what she thought. She never said anything just sized my ring and then handed me a size 5 to try on. The 5 was too small and I asked her what she thought, it was bizarre because she never would give any insight or opinions. I asked if the ring could be sized down a quarter of a size and if she thought I needed that. She rolled her eyes multiple times while I spoke and was so disrespectful. She never told me if it should be resized, then I mentioned that my friend had something on her ring that kept it from sliding and if that would be a better solution. She told me I could do a ring guard and that I wouldn't be able to see it. She was gone fora few minutes and came back with this horrible looking ring guard on my ring. My friend just had beads on her ring, which was what I wanted as that is a permanent solution & does not take away the beauty of the ring. She told me to come back when I get married and then they will resize the wedding band & my ring together. I told her we are not getting married until summer of 24 & she didn't really say anything. As soon as I got to my car I started crying. Not only did I feel like the store associate was so rude, but she clearly is not knowledgeable on jewelry as she never gave us any recommendations or was any help at all. My fiance went back in & had the ring guard removed. We then drove to Elliott's in Edwardsville where we recieved excellent service. He recommended we do beads to keep it from sliding. We will never go back to Reiniger's & will suggest the same to our family & friends. I still am shocked by how we were treated. Pictured is how the associate wanted me to keep my ring for 2 years until...
Read moreEDITED: On 9/19/22, the evening after I had written my previous review, I received a phone call from Paul Reiniger. I am not used to any review (positive or negative) getting anyone's attention, but Paul had called me to discuss the incident further. Upon a semi-lengthy conversation, he wanted to make things right. I applaud his business ethics and appreciate his approach to make an uncomfortable situation better for all involved. You usually only get one chance to make a first impression; but in this case, maybe a second chance is just what it takes. We will be giving Reiniger Jewelers another chance in the near future. Thank you, Paul!!
Original Review: On Wednesday, 8/24/2022, my elderly mother and her male friend (both in their 90's) went into the Alton store (that was formerly Maneke's) to have a pin put in her friend's watch (to attach the metal band to the watch face itself).
The employee (an older woman, from what they told me), charged them $20 cash and did not give them a receipt. For $20, I feel that they could have purchased a whole new watchband!
I did contact the jewelry store via their website to see if I could get an estimated cost for the pin. Someone finally replied via text message. On August 26, I received a text message stating, "Thanks for texting us! We will be with you shortly." On September 6, I finally received a follow-up text message stating, "Cotter are usually $5 each. Thanks for your interest."
I feel like this saleswoman preyed on the elderly and could have very easily just pocketed that $20 bill. This situation bothered me so much, that I felt that I had to write a review. They have been long-time patrons of Maneke Jewelers, but this issue with the new jewelry store has left a bad taste. We will definitely be looking for a new jewelry store for any future purchases and repairs, even if I have to bring them over to the...
Read morePaul the owner took care of my watch very professionally. He had me bring my watch back in and he had the face color restored and the numbers put back on. I offered to pay for my portion (putting the numbers back on) but he refused my payment and stated he would take care of it. The watch was restored to its beautiful color and looks great as you will see. A stressful situation but it worked out well, thanks to God. Will definitely go back. See pics below, before and after!
I took my watch in to have the numbers put back on. My face was a rose gold and irreplaceable, and now it is white. I have no idea what they did to the face, but absolutely ruined the color of the watch, and they could not put the pieces back on in the store, would need to be sent somewhere else for over a month. When I was called to pick up, nothing was said about what they did to the face color did not have the decency to tell me what they did to the face. I just stuck the watch in my pocket and finished my errands, saw it when i returned home. I have had this watch since 1997 and had it several times at Maneke's including putting in a new crystal and the face color was never altered. I will...
