The only thing worse than incompetence is dishonest incompetence. My sister took her Chromebook into this location a month or so back because the machine wouldnât boot. The Geek Squad (who I will now be referring to as the Lying Morons) told her that she needed a new motherboard. I know this to be their go-to answer for anything they canât figure out. âItâs the motherboard, bruh. You need a new âMoBoâ.â Lucky for my sister, she has a brother with a STEM degree and 15 years experience with computer hardware and software. I told her to leave the machine with me. Upon disassembly, I made a discovery: the cable ribbon, which connects the keyboard to the motherboard was torn. Iâve made this mistake in a past life, so I know how easily that can happen (which is why I was actually careful when lifting the keyboard up). My sisterâs story started to make more sense. She had mentioned that the power indicating LED on the right side of the laptop illuminated before she took it in to be looked at by the Lying Morons. She also mentioned after she picked it up, ânot even the light on the side works anymoreâ. Makes sense that if they tore the cable ribbon during disassembly that this LED may no longer get signal when the power button is pressed, since - yâknow - the signal path had been borked at that point. Like I said, I understand how easy it is to make a mistake like this. But lying about it and just assuming the customer wonât bother to investigate further? Thatâs not a mistake. Thatâs just straight up dishonesty to try to keep from having to admit a blunder. Like when an idiot kid tries to hide a broken lamp. Moral of the story: If you take your laptop into the American Fork branch of the Lying Morons and they tell you that a new motherboard is needed, get a second opinion. Or just take it someplace else in the first place. Yeah....
Read moreNot going to be continuing our relationship with Geek Squad after they changed their policies. The WHOLE POINT of paying the extra $11/ month for Geek Squad protection on our phones was because they covered pretty much all damage to our phones, NO deductibles, AND gave you a loaner phone to use while your replacement phone (which was exactly the same phone you originally purchased, refurbished) was being shipped. My husband was pretty rough on his phones as he worked in the construction industry, and we really needed the excellent coverage that Geek Squad used to offer. We'll be going somewhere else now, since they now charge $50-$200 deductibles, do NOT cover water damage or much else, and no longer offer loaner phones to use while your replacement phone is shipped, leaving you phone-less for 2-3 days. Basically- everything that made them worth it- they don't do anymore. Bye bye Geek Squad. You're going to lose customers...
Read moreMade an appointment to get the glass of the back of iPhone replaced ( itâs shattered) about 5 days in advance. Show up at my appointment time and they tell me they donât have the part in stock and they canât order it unless they take my iPhone and it will take anywhere between 1-3 days to get the part. Donât know about you but not having a phone for 1-3 days doesnât really work for me.
Wish someone would have called me the day before or even day of to let me know that they were out of stock since they knew exactly what part I needed from my booking. Would have saved me 40 minutes of driving/ gas. Feels like this was easily preventable but they did not take the...
