First, everyone was extremely kind. Was laid off from my job and had to come here to have a cracked tooth removed. It previously had a half done root canal job from a dentist I no longer frequent. I was in pretty bad pain and no dentist felt "comfortable" doing it. When I call they initially set my appointment out on April 3. I was in excruciating pain. The filling from the root canal had completely fallen out and it felt like a dry socket left a gaping hole. They bumped my appoint up to March 23 and I was extremely grateful though when I called it was the 21st so 2 more days of this pain and otc pain meds that didn't even take the edge off. The pain was so bad it made me vomit throughout the day. When I got there it's the most confusing set up. I went to 4 different desks before getting anywhere, good thing I showed up 45 minutes before the appointment. One clerk tells me I have an account from an address that I haven't lived at in over 15 years, I'm 26 - but when I called a few months back for a different issue they told me I had no account and that I as a new patient, have close to a 6 month wait (at the time I called) I ended up explaining myself over and over to different students and dentists. I signed so many times they kept forgetting what I had done already. Asked me about my health history 3 different times. I feel like my medical records should be viewed without problem since it's all the same institution. Nope, we started off as if I was a newborn. I was in so much pain I had been avoiding talking so you can see how this Went. The assistant joked about whether he ssked abojtbmy pain level. THEY NEVER DID! š² They take for ever to do the X-ray, had me bite down on the tooth that was causing pain, while adjusting and readjusting the camera over and over, then conversing with a colleague shortly before removing it., They were pulling and yanking at my mouth for almost 20 minutes, taking breaks so that others could come and ake a go at pulling it. They admitted this was a tough one, they decide to flaps it which has to be signed off on or something so I sat there waiting for them to find the Dr. - then I hear the 4 year student telling him not to "SAW" over incision as it's takes longer to heal and is really painful for the patient, but to remember this for... THE NEXT TIME! š³ Then he goes on to yank and pull so hard, dentist after dentist giving it their full strength yanking my head around, kinda reminded me of a c-section! The numbing medicine has already worn off but I don't say anything because I don't want them to stop, I was very calm, I just to get it over with. Then come the stitches..I felt each time they poked my gum, each time he tied the suture, and then heard the 4 year student tell him they weren't tied tight enough and to use some other method-AGAIN FOR NEXT TIME! They send me home with no antibiotics and no pain meds. I ask for something for pain, the doctor PRESCRIBES otc Tylenol, after telling him that this is exactly what I've been on and it hasn't helped AT ALL i don't realize this is what my prescription is until I get to the pharmacy. I call back and the person who answers says, if the dr wrote this he probably felt this is all you needed. First off WHO ARE YOU, to tell me how much pain I'm in. I was livid. I had AN EXTREME amount of trauma from 3-4 different people yanking at my tooth all starting with their full momentum and strength, and the doctor who wrote the script WASNT EVEN IN THE ROOM! We walked half way across the building to even get a signature for it. He calls in 12 Tylenol 3 which has taken off the edge, the stinging pain from the cuts, but nothing for the extreme amount of trauma, the actually pulling, and the extreme amount of pain for the infection that existed before the extraction, that basically felt like being punched in the face by Mike Tyson 37 times I've had a few extractions but NONE made my jaw swell like this. I'm going on 7 days now in excruciating pain, back to taking otc like tic tacs The pain hasn't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took my son to the Motts oral surgery Dept, which I'm being told is also a part of the School of Dentistry. My son had a abscessed tooth evaluated. The doctor and NP was very professional and willing to listen to my concerns regarding my son's special needs and sensitivity to medications. The ladies at the front desk during checkout was NOT professional or helpful !! I called the Motts oral surgery center after leaving the appointment to get more information regarding my son's OR scheduling and insurance approval information. A lady named Jennifer or Ann talked to me in a condescending rude, and pushy unprofessional way when I question their procedure process as far as surgery and appointment scheduling. She seemed confused and unsure of the details of my son's treatment plan. I tried to explain to her why the the doctor was advising that my son be scheduled in the OR. The lady talked to me as if I was lying to her. She said a rude and condescending tone that she had to consult with the doctor or nurse practitioner to verify what I was saying to her. When she got back on the phone with me she then said that I was correct , but however if my insurance doesn't approve the procedure for the OR I will need to bring my son to the Med Inn Center for the procedure because the nurse practitioner said that he would have to go over to the Med Inn Center. I questioned why because that's not what I was told by the nurse practitioner during my son's appointment. I was told I could bring him back to the oral surgery center. The lady at the front desk said in a condescending rude tone, " because that's what they prefer and that's how it will be!!" She was rude unprofessional and unwilling to answer my questions regarding the med Inn Center. She said she did not know anything about the centers scheduling or procedures. I decided to call the Med Inn Center because I need more information before I allow my son to be seen there. I talk to a lady at the med Inn Center and she was wonderful!! She was way more professional, friendly and helpful than the secretaries at the Motts oral surgery center. She advised me that doctors from the oral surgery center at Motts come to the Med Inn Center once a month to work on children. I feel The ladies at the oral surgery center should know this, but did not offer me this information and was unwilling to give any information, and also very unprofessional and rude. They also tried to give me Medical advise and told me not to contact my insurance. This is unacceptable for a secretary to think that she has the authority or the right to speak to patients this way and to give medical advice because these ladies have no credentials behind their name. They are nothing more than a secretary and scheduler. If you take your child to the Motts Children's Oral Center be prepared to deal with this type of unprofessional treatment from the secretaries at the front desk. I would like to mention that one secretary at Motts oral surgery Dept (Jessica) was much more knowledgeable and professional and helpful during the scheduling of my son's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEdit: a year later and all four extraction sites still ache, experiencing gum recession and sensitivity to the teeth next the extraction sites. I was in serve pain for 3 weeks later and day 21 my face was still swollen and could not eat hard food and was still taking Tylenol. When I was in pain to the point of endlessly crying for a week straight (very draining for me and my partner) it was impossible getting ahold of the surgeon number they provided and resident on call line they provided. I really regret having this done here. As I am typing this my top extraction site is achy and hurting. I have zero cavities and keep good oral hygiene so itās nothing on my part. The pain was so bad at week three still I had to go to the ER and get treatment and learned that because reception failed to tell me I wasnāt supposed to eat (Iāve never gone under before) they had to just numb me. Took an hour and fourty minutes to complete, suffered ripped cheek muscle which caused all that pain initially āapparentlyā. I literally got up from the chair in the worse pain Iāve ever had in my life and sobbed ( the other people waiting for their appointment started to question if they should still go back from the looks of their facial expressions seeing me) the entire way to walgreens and home. I have many tattoos, pricing, and have been in accidents and have never felt pain like this. Everyone I have spoken to has said this is as extremely abnormal. The student oral surgeon and actual oral surgeon were very dismissive of me. I am highly disappointed this is how they treat their own students seeking care with them. I have an appointment elsewhere to get checked since I am still in pain a year later. I am a student here at umich and have been trying to schedule my appointment for wisdom teeth removal after my consultation however they will not return my calls despite calling for months. They were waiting on a document from my cardiologist which they claimed after 6 months they never received. Iāve offered to fax, screenshot, or email the report from MyChart and still no response after call after call. Starting to give up but my wisdom teeth hurt a lot and itās giving me anxiety so Iāll keep trying :( I even went into the office since Iām on campus and they just had me call again, the operator left a note for the front desk but as you expected no...
