The 5stars is for the very first time my husband and I sat down to eat in at the Jamaican Jerk Pit, New Year's Eve 2016. I had the jerk chicken-curry goat combo plate (mild), hubby ordered the jerk chicken pasta (spicy). The food was delicious! The service and wait time was very good as well. Everything was very authentic and reminded us of past vacations to the Island. With that being said, we stated right away Jamaican Jerk Pit would become a favorite restaurant to visit and that we'd be coming back very soon.

Fast forward to yesterday January 14th. The great taste of Jamaican cuisine at the Pit was still such a strong craving for us, we decided to call in take-out of the same orders we'd eaten previously. This time we even added an order of two beef patties and I asked for medium heat. Hubby requested the same spicy heat he'd gotten before.

The ride home was accompanied by the savory smell of the plates we couldn't wait to dig into once again.

The anticipation was met with let down and extreme disappointment..The combo plate I ordered was mild and devoid of any heat. Though it's generally expected take-out portions are smaller, mine was very much so with the proteins being maybe a tablespoon serving of each in the small sections of the styrofoam container and the rice and peas being the majority of the plate served in the larger faction of the three part plate. But the worst problem was, that it was EXTREMELY SALTY! With the first taste, the vision of someone taking a big popcorn salt shaker dispenser to the goat portion came to mind! It was inedible to the point of triggering anger since I had my mouth so set for that goat. It was also mild rather than the medium heat I'd opted for this time. The beef patties were very greasy but then, beef patties usually are in my past experiences but I've also tasted much crispier crusts and one patty was notably spicier than the other. Hubby was also thoroughly disappointed. His order had NO HEAT at all. It was mild at best whereas at the restaurant, the spicy heat caused his eyes and nose to water-a desired and good thing for his palate.

Both plates were wasted as well as the money we had spent..and we spent more with the take-out order than at the sit down visit.

Carry out service receives: 2-2.5 stars.

Needless to say, we've learned a lesson here. Maybe we'll visit to eat in again at some point. We just won't be calling to order out any...

I went there to meet my brother for lunch and ended up sitting upstairs because 'the pit' was full. It took about 10 minutes to even see our waiter and we actually had to walk downstairs to get him. I ordered the fried plantains and a jerk chicken sandwich.

FORTY MINUTES later after we had to go downstairs AGAIN to get our waiter we finally get the plantains. I ask him if our food is going to be much longer because I only had 30 minutes for lunch and that had already come and gone. He responded with, "What, are you guys in a hurry or something?" Seriously?

The Jerk chicken sandwich was really good, but it's not worth the wait or the hassle of putting up with a beyond incompetent staff.

EDIT: from 3 stars to 1

I received a call from the manager inviting me to a complementary meal to give them another chance. This visit was worse than the first. 45 minutes for food. No one came to check on us after we had nursed our waters for the better part of an hour. I had to change my order to go because I was already beyond late to report back to work.

Only go if you want to spend your entire day there.

Never again Jerk Pit,...

I use to love this place. I traveled far to seek it out but was very disappointed the person that answered the phone when I placed my order was rude and placed me on hold for more than 7 mins. And said that it would be over an hour wait. When she returned to the phone and I simply asked for my total she told me I can't give you that right now and hung up. I tried to call back inorder to add another item. I called right back but the phone continued to ring without an answer. To indicate that the call was being ignored she called me about 5 mins. later and was rude again so I decided to tell her to just cancel the order. She stated , look I couldn't give you your total because I had a customer so you don't want anything because of that then fine. I wasn't rude to her and cancelled the order because I am not going to give business to someone that is so rude. Especially during a pandemic when every penny counts and many businesses are failing you should watch how you engage with people as their business is what keeps you afloat. I will never come back here and will also express this rudeness to my family and...

The food was absolutely amazing. Every bite was savory and filling down to the bone. The chicken jerk was very tender and juicy, the sauce had a little ting of spice but wasn't over powering the flavor of the spices. The salad was also very good and seemed to be droused in the right amount of olive oil. The rice with peas had great texture, was sticky enough to stay together and very soft. The plantains were pipping hot, but when they cooled down they were incredibly sweet and very well cooked, it has a side of crunch to it on some spots that were a little crisped but that only added texture to it. The food did take somewhere along 10-15min to arrive to me which wasn't too bad of a wait considering the fact that it seemed they made everything fresh and on the spot(excluding the sauces I'm assuming). The food did also need a little pinch of salt overall but that wasn't too bad, I just added some to my plate. Overall great experience and highly recommended.

The food was decent. The only thing I liked was the oxtail plate and that was after it sat for a bit. The oxtail was very fatty and not much meat on it. Didn't get to try the mango cheesecake as it melted and when I did it taste nasty. The regular cheesecake was ok, nothing special, and wouldn't order again. The pasta had no flavor and really only tasted good when I mixed the jerk chicken with it. The beef patties were good and the jerk ranch was good. They gave me a Jerk BBQ, with a broken container top so it spilled out, and when I tasted it I didn't like it. All in all wasn't really impressed but if and when I am in Ann Arbor again I would go back.

Went back during art fair week. Food is still great and portion sizes seemed to increase. They do a great job. Jerk chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage onpint. Oxtails are great, and the Curry goat. I like everything I order here. Price went up, but it's due to food cost, so I'm not surprised. Checked out this place on lunch with a friend and the food was amazing. The first time eating oxtails, and I was very pleased. Loved the jerk Chicken Nachos and actually hated plantains, but after trying theirs, I like them. Great place, even though a bit small
