My mom passed away a few years ago. Before dying she went to build a bear and made each of us kids a build a bear with her voice. Today i went to bring it along with my son’s bear to get the batteries replaced.
After standing in line she basically told us that all the other customers were more important as they were making purchases. She started to work on one , and said nope it’s broken and the batteries aren’t working n used a box cutter to cut him open. We went to go eat and would come back giving her time to work on the other one. We came back and she said she didn’t get time and would help us in a few hours after all the other customers were taken care of. Keep in mind we too are customers and we waited in line like everyone Else. At this point we said Just give us the animals back. We were not being treated fairly. When she gave us the bear back. He too, cut open in two places (not in the right place) and the voice box broken.
We drove right to the build a bear in Appleton. They confirmed both animals were cut open wrong , we were able to re record my sons bear as that was our voices. But the one my mom got me. They completely broke the voice box. The power switch was completely broken off and gone. So of course new batteries wouldn’t work! This was all I had of my moms voice. It isn’t replaceable. And they destroyed it and didn’t care in the least bit. The wonderful staff at the Appleton store were appalled and practically in tears themselves as seeing the hack job done was definitely not what build a bear stands by.
I know I’m nobody to them. But they took everything...

We were immediately greeted by a friendly employee who, despite us being grown adults, gave us the Detective Pikachu scavenger hunt promotion. The lady who stuffed our new plushes had been there before, and was super friendly! We made great conversation, especially about the new How To Train Your Dragon movie, while we got them stuffed. When we were ready to go, we had to wait at the counter for a little bit (there were only two employees in the store, and it was starting to get busy). We didn't mind the wait, though, as it wasn't long. The only real issue I had is that the woman behind the register never offered us boxes for our new friends, and instead tried to sell us the $5.50 Build-a-Bear drawstring backpack. Other than that, our experience was great, and we went home satisfied with our new stuffed animals! Tl;Dr: my friend and I enjoyed our visit to Build-a-Bear and had good encounters with the staff, except one tried to push an expensive item on us. (We also never got offered anything else, so we just carried them around the...
