This place is a joke and a waste of time. I even went on the internet to their website to ck out their store policy and to see what was acceptable and what was not...and I do understand the caution you'd take when buying used clothes but MY CLOTHES, were named brand, still had tags even, GREAT CONDITION, American Eagle, Rue 21, Hollister, Aeropastle....this is stuff you could easily resale to other consumers an make bank... I was told that the store wasnt allowed to accept clothing more than 2 years old....um HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT...I had clothes...no older than a year and no less than 3 months in that box...so that's not true, don't believe me, I keep all MY Receipts!...so regardless if a company sold them and later discontinued selling them....BC THEY GOT NEW INVENTORY. Doesnt mean that they didn't have any sales...they had NEW ARRIVALS...DUHHHH....PEOPLE like me would buy clothes like I HAD...When I was looking through the store as they went through 2 boxes of my clothes....the comparssion to what you do accept and do not, shows you won't make a whole lot of money, rejecting good clothing items like mine AND I don't expect to sell my clothes and make THE ACTUAL cost back. I understand the depreciation and the resale, but to reject everything I had except for 2 items, just completely boogles me! I won't be back..even though I bought some stuff....the dress that I had bought, well the sems were loose and stitch was missing...even a button in the back missing....my clothes didn't have neither of those. Thank God I know how to sew, I'd rather do that than come back to that store and just consider it a lost and a experience that I wasn't to happy with! I see other comments on here are the same....what a dang shame. Good luck, PLATO, your...
Read moreI loved the Plato's Closet in Augusta, then I started to dislike their buying practices and the merchandise selection there as well. So, I stopped going altogether!!! Then, I realized they went out of business!!! Probably for the things I disliked!!! Well, I was in town with my cousin looking and shopping around. We had just left the mall and as we were riding down the street I noticed a Plato's Closet close to the mall as we left town. I made a mental note to come back and check them out. I had a few reservations about what I was going into because my other experiences with the company, but they weren't strong enough for me not to go in and look around. I'm so glad I went in and checked them out!!! The store was much bigger than the one I used to shop in. It was very organized and the selection of items was incredible. I didn't even get to look around at all the section because I found so much nice stuff in the women's dress section. If you know me, you know I LOVE a dress!!! They are no hassle, easy to wear, and if it's they are cut the right way, they are very flattering!!! I found over 10 dresses that I liked and tried on and out of the 10, I bought about 7 of them!!! My total of all my purchases where just over $40!!! That was a SUPER steal for me!!! I usually pay over $40 for one dress!!! And the items I bought are very one of a kind pieces that you probably couldn't find anywhere else!!! I'm so glad that I came and check them out!!! Whenever I'm in town or close to Athens, I will definitely stop in and shop till I drop!!! This store is now added to my favorite shopping...
Read moreYou would think that in a college town a place like this would be thriving and overflowing with great clothes broke students were forced to sell for some cash - wrong! I shopped here a few times before I ever brought in clothes to sell and was always underwhelmed at the selection. It seemed like they were trying to cater to a more high school aged buyer than the college kids that shop there. The clothes seemed outdated and cheap and the staff was also far less than welcoming. When I did get around to bringing in my clothes to sell, I was ridiculously surprised at how little they took. The money they offered me wasn't the issue - obviously they can't give me close to the price they'll sell the item for because they'd never make a profit - it was the fact that they told me the brands of my clothes were "too mature." Too mature?! I brought in dresses and shirts from Banana Republic, Loft, J. Crew and Target. Every single girl I know my age shops/has shopped at those stores frequently. I've even seen items from those stores for sale in Plato's too! After that incident, I come here as a last resort to see if I can get any cash then drive straight to Goodwill to donate what they don't take.
I've heard great things about other Plato's, but this one is obviously falling very short. So many people I know have had this same exact problem, so my friends and I have sworn off this store except for when we need ugly themed clothes for parties. Maybe if they started buying better clothes (that I know for a fact they're being offered), I'd take...
