We just took a 15-day road-trip as a family of 5 in one of ScamperVan's vans and it was a wonderful experience. First of all, soooo much fun! My kids (ages 11, 7, and 7) were so excited about the van and were looking forward to the road-trip for months beforehand. I honestly could have taken them anywhere and they would have been happy to go, as long as it was in the van. Also, everywhere we stopped, people wanted to chat with us about the van--it definitely will bring a "cool factor" to your vacation. Second, the van handled beautifully and was stocked with absolutely everything we needed to visit and camp in places as varied as Memphis, TN, Mesa Verde National Park, Santa Fe, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, AZ, and New Orleans. We had a camp stove, hammocks, a high performance cooler, pump sink (which was slicker than I thought it would be), all kinds of flashlights, lanterns, kitchen gadgets, camp chairs, bedding and plenty of space to sleep, etc., and really only had to think about our clothes, our food, and where we wanted to go. Third, great customer service with Dave and his crew. We had a slightly delayed start on a Saturday because the vehicle came back the day before with worn through tires and needed to be serviced. Dave called me the night before to explain the situation and I appreciated the personal touch and attention to our safety. Lots of peace of mind knowing that we were setting off to drive over 4000 miles with new tires and totally worth the few hours' delay. Finally, memories for a lifetime and the ability to feel safe about getting out to explore with the family during these strange COVID-times. As a family, we were able to zipline, hike, explore ancient pueblo buildings, cliff dive, and bike the rim of the Grand Canyon without worry about the safety of where we were staying. Incredible freedom and adventure, only limited by your willingness to go. :) If you're thinking about it, do it.

Scamper Van is an adventure oasis. It's a practical, comfortable, space-efficient and spectacularly groovy campsite on wheels. I'd need an hour and a beer to point out all its features, but I'll highlight a few that we found particularly brilliant: The lofted space can be popped up to create a bonafide living room inside the van; spacious sink has variable water pressure options and can be "put away" to increase counter space; windows each have magnetic covers or pull down shades for darkness and privacy; both loft and main cabin lights dim with the pressure of your finger; mini fridge keeps things nice and cool; storage upon storage upon storage; a handheld shower hose helps eliminate the buildup of post-hike musk; you can hook up a phone to have your co-pilots play tunes of choice, and there is even a digital map on the dash to keep an eye on those winding mountain switchbacks ahead. We didn't end up needing the solar panel when we scampered, but nice to know its an option if your tribe travels with power guzzling gadgets. Also noteworthy is the outside awning, which provides both shade and rain protection and brings a neat patio vibe to the whole assembly. Don't worry, you'll be given an in-person tutorial to become a Scamper Van wizard yourself when your vehicle is dropped off. The van has surprisingly good gas mileage, but I recommend calculating your trip's projected mileage ahead of time and taking advantage of the extra packages (purchased in bundles of 100 miles) to save money if your adventure may cover a lot of ground. These guys are totally different from your standard rental company- they are a breeze to work with and they run their business with kindness and clarity. It totally shows that the Scamper Van team wants their renters to have fun in the great outdoors, stay safe and make awesome memories. Only downside to renting a Scamper Van is having to give the van back!

I would recommend this company if you're looking for a camping van. The owner is reasonable and the entire process was easy. No major complaints dealing with anyone we interacted with. So why not 5 stars? The van we got had some issues. The main one, which is why they lost a star, was, at my best guess, warped rotors. Basically, if you were going over 50mph and hit the brakes, the steering wheel and front end would violently shake. So you just had to slow down coasting and then hit the brakes at under 50mph. It was made even worse once we got into the mountains, as our adventure was taking use to Asheville, NC. We informed the guy who picked up the van about the problem and he was very apologetic and ensured us they would get it fixed immediately. I don't think it was something that was noticeable when the driver brought the van because the van wasn't weighted down with 2 people and gear for a 4 day trip. The ceiling ventilation fan only works on solar power in this van. Not a great feature, it got crazy stuffy. I guess we could have just ran the van with AC, but it was a good temperature, it was like sleeping in a car without being able to crack the windows. With the tropical storm, the awning was broken, one of the legs folded due to a tree branch falling on it. Initially they were going to make us pay for the entire repair, but ended up making us only pay 1/2. They handled the situation professionally and it's why they deserve 4 stars at minimum. Thank you. Some more regular maintenance and design reconfiguration and this would have been perfect from their end. They can't control the weather, so while there were so many bad things about this trip, dealing with this company was not one of them. I would recommend them and we will use them again if we ever get over the traumatic experience of the tropical storm.

The absolute best experience ever!! And I cannot recommend ScamperVan enough. I had never taken a camper van trip or RV trip, and have never taken a real long road trip. I have gone camping before. But this was a different style of travel that was totally new for me. Dave and Eric are the warmest, kindest guys who really just want to enable you to have a wonderful experience. They pretty much bent over backwards to help enable me to get a van and have it for the time period I needed. Since I was a female solo traveler they went above and beyond to equip me with an extra large battery to charge my devices in case I found myself stranded. The van is so easy to drive (like a large SUV), fits in a regular parking space, and is compact yet spacious. It comes equipped with everything you need. The bed was comfy (beware tall people you may need to go diagonal) and there was tons of storage so it never felt messy or overly full inside. I brought all my own food. Once you arrive to wherever you want to go, there's really no set up (tents, etc.) - you're just good to go! The van quality and everything inside is very good - and they stock it with batteries, flashlights, fans, toilet paper, clothes pins, just all the little details that you wouldn't think of. I love the camper van life because it really invites so much spontaneity - you can truly just explore. I recommend sleeping in national forests because there is a lot of dispersed camping, which means you can just park and it's free. HipCamp and Campendium were useful apps. Sleeping in Walmart parking lots as you're racing across the Midwest is useful. You can just tell from the videos on the website that these guys really care about what they do, and they're in the business of giving people a great experience. I felt really good supporting ScamperVan and will definitely rent with them again...
