My Friday was spent at @urbantreecider Atlanta's FIRST farm-to-table cider experience. I loved the farm-inspired, industrial space at the Howell Mill Rd location. I learned that they are very active in the community and have partnerships with local organizations like Atlanta United and Atlanta Beer Bus. I was taken on a tour where I saw the ins and out of the in-house operation and shown exactly how their delicious cider is made:
First, their apples are handpicked and pressed from a family orchard in the Blue Ridge Divide that carries a legacy of over 100 years.
Next, the juice is transported to Atlanta where exclusive yeasts are added to start the fermentation process.
Then the juice is filtered and the processes of blending, aging, and infusion starts. Finally, it is time for carbonation and bottling (and pouring up at the Taproom). Ciders I tried:
Harvest Apple
Sweet Heat Haze
Tropic Like It's Hot
Wild on Cherry
Cocktails:
Flat Iron
Swan House
It is all local and authentic and made in-house. They also have hand-crafted cider cocktails made with distilled Georgia spirits. Urban Tree Cidery has games and a Trivia night for the ultimate laid-back, fun experience with friends. You can bring your own food, have it delivered to you, or snack on some Pretzels AND the inside and patio are both dog-friendly. Unlike a typical bar Urban Tree Cidery is more like Cheers (in Real Life) where everybody...
Read moreLaunching under the wings of a 'Farmhouse Winery', Urban Tree boasts the title of Atlanta's first cidery. The location in the West Midtown area is relatively convenient, and scores a sweet spot next to a portion of the Atlanta Beltline Project. It won't be long until we're all drunk-cycling to all these amazing spots!
Because more than 50% of their produce is sourced from Georgia, Urban Tree avoids all the GA Beer B.S., and can offer craft cider cocktails and beer selections from local breweries, in addition to selling their Ciders directly to customers. Their original cider is just what I want a cider to be: dry, crisp, but flavorful. They add some sweetness for their Classic style, age the original in a rum barrel, or dry-hop the crap out of it for the Fugg'n Hopped variation. But the icing on the cake was the Ginger Habanero infusion, a perfect finish to a flight: $12 for 5-four oz pours. $5-7 for a 12-oz pour.
During my Wednesday visit, UT was nice and chill; maybe a dozen other customers came in for everything from samples to full pours. The space is well suited for about 100-200 people, but would be pretty crowded. Truly uniquely fashioned, the farmhouse-meets-industrial feeling is not lost. Natural materials and a casual atmosphere make UT...
Read moreThe Urbantree Cidery is such a welcome treat after being away from Vermont and Montreal for 4 months. Folks don't know what they are missing until they try a hard, crisp, clean cider!
I don't like drinking, wine is OK, spent a year in Paris, London, Austria, etc and I found that after coming back to The US and living in CA for 6+ years wine is overpriced and talked about too much. Went to Montreal and Vermont to live and work and they do just that..live, work and don't bs about food, drinks, etc. Just get to the good stuff.
Cider is one of them! 🍎The service here at Urban Tree is so worth the trip, Sydney is a joy! Checked on us, helped us order and well, just a joyous person, made my day!
Go, enjoy the clean establishment, hang out on the comfy couches, grab a flight, a cocktail or just a hard cider..if you don't drink a Root beer by Red Hare!
Food, well, you can order a pizza by Johnny's pizza to be delivered or bring your own. They have bagged pretzels or a quick few steps away shop to pick up chips, etc..
Also, the rest of the staff is top notch...even security you can get a smile from!
The music isn't too loud and a wide variety..60s - today.
Clean, fun and heck,...
