We were going to be visiting family in Atlantic Beach during the time of my son's 14th birthday, we live in Seattle, and he wanted a skateboard. As I searched for a local shop, I came across Finch's and thought that this might be it, the real thing, a real, old school skateboard shop that wasn't trying to be anything else, that was keeping the main thing the main thing. We were here a few days before his birthday, long enough to have driven by a few times and it looked good from the outside.... On the day of his birthday we made some time, drove over, and the moment we walked in and met Logan I knew I nailed it. Perfect. This place is perfect. Logan is a great guy and knew exactly how to help guide Vito through different board choices, taking them down and having him stand on them on the rug and feel them under his feet. As he felt them and pondered, Logan and I talked about longboards (I may be 50, but I still ride, as I am not dead yet) - he answered Vito's questions honestly and with understanding and a little history. When he had figured out the board part, we put the rest together - the right trucks, wheels for the kind of riding he would do, bearings, and grip tape... I had planned for this to take time, this is not buying a toy - this is an instrument of creativity, a tool of personal expression and I couldn't have asked for it to be any more perfect. He rode around the parking lot and could only say "this board feels amazing!"... and the rest of the afternoon he went up and down the street in front of my brother-in-law's house, working on his Ollie. I cannot recommend this shop highly enough - wherever you are, make the drive. It's worth it. We even bought a tshirt so we could represent while...
Read moreThe other reviews weren’t wrong. Customer service is on point. My son recently wanted to learn how to skate. We made the mistake of getting him a board from a big box store. I knew it wouldn’t be high quality but I figured it would be good enough for him to get started. Boy was I wrong. The board wouldn’t even roll down a hill by itself. Knowing nothing about skating I looked for a skate shop.
Once I explained the situation he told me what it would take to fix the board. He quickly changed out the parts and showed me the difference between the junk he was taking off and the components he was putting on. It was like a completely different board when he was done. Pricing was much less than I expected. He also didn’t try to take advantage of my lack of knowledge to sell me more expensive stuff my son wouldn’t need. He even gave my son some stickers and a poster. My son is super happy now.
Really wish I would have just come here first and skipped the box store board. Definitely will be back if my son...
Read moreBack in 2018, we went on a weekend trip away to NC. Our son was always fascinated with skating and anything really that keeps me on my toes. It was always a point no matter where we went we had to find a local skatepark to visit and on this trip, we came across this skate shop. It was in a great main location and visible signs that caught our attention. Inside the shop was filled with all the necessities you'd need for a day at the park including boards, the hardware, shoes, and clothing. The owner was there at the time and helped us get together our son Luke's first actual board. I will never forget the great help he was that day and how kind he was to a little kid. We ended up going to the skate park where the owner had gone as well and continued his kindness offering to show him some tricks for riding. I hope the shop is still doing great and hope one day we get back for...
