Atlantic Beach Town Park — Attraction in Atlantic Beach

Overall a great park. Splash pad was great. Would've given five stars, if not for a safety issue that caused my four year old to get I injured. Sliding down the slide directly after getting wet on the splash pad and instead of exiting the slide normally, he shot off of it and landed flat on his back, back of his head hitting first! There was a sufficient amount of wood mulch in the playground area, but there was a large deficit just below the bottom of the slide (at least 8 inches, or more lower than the rest of the playground). His head struck hard. My suggestion is to check the level of mulch daily and rake out the low spot (which would take someone with a garden rake all of two minutes daily) and add a sign at entrance to playground area, signifying the added danger/risk of sliding (or using playground, in general, when wet). We purposely read all rules whenever we see a sign, anywhere we go. We did read the rules prior to using the playground area and there is no such warning anywhere. I was floored by this place and how affordable it was for such good quality! Theres a splash pad for free lined with shaded seating. A tree shaded picnic area, a concession stand with very affordable canned drinks amd ice cream, a free basket ball court amd play ground to use, as well as a skate park and there is mini golf for only 5 bucks a person. The splash pad is what got us since the beaches have been more dangerous than usual with rip currents and more sharks appearing we dont go there anymore for swimming and we dont own a pool. It accommodates fun for children and affordability and shade for the adults! I gladly drive the 20 mins to it from our home...
