The retention team is deplorable
There's a fiber company in my town that offers 1gb down/up 10ms latency for half of Spectrum's listed 1gb down price, so I took that. I was on the phone with Spectrum's retention for 35 minutes just trying to close my account and they were doing everything in the book to try to keep me short of blackmail. They even badmouthed fiber optic itself and implied I was making a mistake by leaving them.
After officially closing my account, they then informed me that my service ends the next day and that they don't/won't prorate service until the installation of a new service. I paid my internet bill 13 days ago on time via autopay, so it took the moment it was due. Cancelled service plan? Service is over even if you paid for a full month.
For those of you who are looking or are already members: Look for a cheaper option in your area and tell them you are leaving/don't like their prices and they will lowball the competition.
Charter Spectrum Retention offered me their 1gb down, 40mb up, 20ms latency broadband($108 via their website) for $40 when I attempted to leave. They were charging me $88 for 400mb down, 11mb up, 20ms.
I'm not leaving to save money, I'm leaving...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreShort of it: go with CTC if it's an option. They provide the speeds advertised and not "up to" what is advertised. They are also cheaper than spectrum and the customer service was by a human in my area. Long of it: Spectrum is a typical large corporation that nickels and dimes you to death and slowly raises the cost of your services without notifying the customer. They used to have an office now they have a building that resembles a cell phone business vs what they actually are. I paid $90 just for Internet, then a $10 fee for wireless and a $20 fee for 1GB internet. I pay $89 at CTC for all the above. They advertise fiberoptic and speeds "UP TO" 1GB but the speeds were never close to that because they don't run fiberoptic to your house. Because of that I lagged for online gaming despite being the only one using the internet in my house. I just finished gaming while my son was playing Roblox on the PC and my daughter was in a YouTube hole...no lagging. Lastly, I just found out they're a "monthly subscription service" so despite only using their service for about 12 days in the cycle I'll be paying for the whole month. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot helpful, rude, donāt want to work. The store clerk refused to help me transfer my number from an old phone to a new phone. I was forced to call customer service to ask them to do it while I was in the store. I was on hold for 45 minutes between three customer reps as they kept pushing me to āanother rep who could helpā me while I was also waiting in the store. I ended up with no help from the phone line because I could not wait any more. The clerk asked me if I got it all figured out, and I said no. I needed to switch my sim card back to another phone, so I asked him for a paperclip to help, and he was not helpful so I found a paperclip in the communal cup for pens which was right in front of me. He then threatened to call the cops and told me to leave his store. I asked for what- and he said for being obscene. I guess telling someone they werenāt helpful is now an obscenityā¦!? I got my phone sims out and put the paperclip back in the cup and began to leave- and the clerk accused me of stealing the paperclip. I told him to go look in the cup. It was there. I hope Spectrum can figure out how to take care of long-time customers. Iām ready to change back to another...
