Wow, talk about poor quality, these doors must rank the poorest of all when you order them. I ordered a $2,755.95 Mastercraft door system from Menards. It was a 36” door with two 12” sidelights. It was a steel door with a composite frame that they said was “One Piece Mull Construction”, and the door supposedly had a lifetime warranty on the finish. The door was paid for upfront (4/2) and took only a little over a month to be delivered to my home (5/5) which is the last good thing that happened. When I unpacked the door, I was astonished. The system was built with many pieces which were loosely nailed together, some pieces were even out of alignment, with nail holes right through the composite frame elements. Mastercraft didn’t even try to use hidden fastener systems or glues, and left the nail holes highly visible. With this I called Menards and they said they were surprised at the poor quality, so they reordered the door. The next door came in and Menards called to tell me. I asked for them to check the door and they said it came in with the same nail holes through the frame, “that must just be the way Mastercraft builds them”, they said. At this point I was stuck. The door was scheduled to be installed the next week, and for me to order a door from someplace else would take four to six weeks or more. Expressing my displeasure with the situation Menards said they would refund me for the door, or I could accept the door the way it was. Being stuck they delivered the second door which I compared with the first one and I kept the second one because at least all the pieces were properly aligned, even if not secured tightly, and still the nail holes were exposed. Menards told me I could fill in the nail holes with white caulk. If I did that, surely over time the caulk would shrink or discolor, if it could even be matched from the start, and how can there be a lifetime warranty on the door’s finish with these patched nail holes? Overall, Menards stuck me with a poor-quality Mastercraft door at a cost of $2,755.95, and I have it installed looking less then okay. I guess life goes on and Mastercraft and Menards got...
Read moreOrdered plywood, and poplar wood online. Was given instructions via Menards on how to pick up at the store. Unfortunately the store associates did all but what the process was supposed to be.
Before I complain I would like to say that other than this experience of ordering online the store and their associates have been good in the past.
This experience however lasted 1hr. I had to find my items (outside to inside and back outside) and talk to multiple people to try to get the wood cut.
The barn couldn't cut my plywood and they told me to go home and get my saw so I can cut it to fit in my truck. Secondly they didn't have the poplar wood outside, as I was told, so they told me to go inside to the farthest end of the store and find it. Then the associates inside would be able to cut the poplar wood only. While leaving the barn area the gate associate scanned my receipt and noted I had received all my items. He then asked me how much my car was worth??
So I went inside and after finding what I preordered online I went to the back of the store to ask to have the wood cut. They said you have to go outside to get it cut. After some conversation, I found that they were able to cut it inside however with a hand saw! Hahaha.
At this point I asked for a refund at the back registers. They said we can't do that here you have to go to the front. So I went to the front and the customer service desk said that the gate attendant scanned my receipt saying I received all my items. After 2min of conversation and providing proof the associate mentioned to me in a whisper... "yeah none of us like that guy at the gate".
Long story short I went to Lowes and payed 11% more and had an excellent experience. Once entering I was greeted and asked if I needed help. The associate walked to where I could find all my items, cut the wood, loaded the wood, and the entire transaction took 10min.
Spend the extra $7 and go to Lowes or Home Depot where the workers actually work and they have the tools you need to cut / trim /...
Read moreLast week on April 21st I placed a pickup order for some lawn supplies (broadcast spreader, weed and feed, and a shovel). The pickup station workers were great and had me loaded up and back on my way.
On Sunday I opened up the 85lb broadcast spreader to put together. Much to my disappointment the spreader had been used. The hopper had water drip markes from being rinsed out, between the tire treads there was dirt (I open this on a concrete floor garage), the nut / bolt bag had been cut open and sealed back up with scotch tape, and some parts were zip tied together (Not from factory).
I called the store yesterday 4/26 and talked with a lady up front who transferred me back to the department that deals with broadcast spreaders. The lady I first spoke with in the department said they would give me a call back in a few hours. Little later a gentleman called and said best they could do was $10 off. First I had never requested money off. I simply asked if Menards could have UPS or FedEx pick the one up I have and then deliver a NEW one. I simply want a spreader. 2nd I explained to the gentleman I live 40 miles away in New Castle. Why is it my responsibility to take time out of my day to return a product 40 miles away that had been used?
I did not want to try and assemble the spreader not knowing if it had been returned because of not working correctly or if there were missing parts from the package being already open / used.
I have always been a fan of Menards with growing up in Ohio. They have some great deals and their prices usually beat other named stores. But with this store experience I will no longer do business with Menards. $10 off was a joke when all I was trying to get was a new spreader that I had paid for. I will now be making a special 40 mile trip each way to return the spreader for a full refund and will no longer do business with Menards.
Unhappy...
