Okay normally I don’t write reviews of locations unless I had a really great experience or a very poor experience. PDX muscle is an old school type of bodybuilding gym, that honestly looks super cool. Their equipment is dope and the way it presented looks like a place for serious lifters. Once they opened up in phase 1, I signed up with excitement. Not just to workout, however to find a small community of like minded people. A place I can call home, since my previous gym went out of business due to the virus.
However, my experience with the staff, especially one named Dan didn’t make us feel welcomed. Many instances occurred for being called out for equipment use or the “rules” at the gym. At first I was confused and I didn’t think anything of it. So I didn’t let it affect my training partner and I continued to train. However, I was noticing a pattern it seemed to me every time I went to the gym. I was worried of upsetting a trainer which should be the least of my worries. One day, it hit the nail on the coffin when I was called out again for taking over an equipment. There was some confusion, but I was completely yelled out and spoken to in a very unprofessional way. From there I just felt like I didn’t belong here. I no longer wanted endure the harassment given to me, just from working out to achieve my goals. Or using the gym as a copping mechanism during these tough times.
This gym is really cool, however the staff didn’t make us feel welcomed or respected. I wasn’t comfortable even working out. It took one of the trainers to yelled with disrespect to finally just stand up for myself explain what he was doing was not okay. I felt as my training partner and I were called out for things that other members weren’t even talked to about it. I told him and myself that if we really have to worry this much just to train at “our” gym, then it’s not worth this headache. So we...

I love working out and trying different local gyms and studios, and PDX Muscle really stood out. It’s a family-owned private gym and athletic training studio that recently went through a remodel and added more equipment—which was awesome to see.
I did a drop-in session, but they also offer monthly memberships, one-on-one training, group training, and nutrition planning. During my visit, I got the chance to talk with two of the trainers. They were incredibly knowledgeable—not just about fitness and training, but also about proper nutrition and hormone health. That kind of insight is exactly what I look for in a gym and in a trainer.
Nutrition and hormonal balance are key to real lifestyle changes. It’s not always about pushing heavy weights—it's about finding the right balance. I really appreciated the energy at PDX Muscle. The gym is clean, welcoming, and there are no cliques. Everyone was friendly, and you can tell the owners and staff genuinely know what they’re doing.
Highly recommend if you're serious about training smart and...
Read moreMy story is a long one with this gym so I will keep it relatively short. It’s small which I personally like better now. I didn’t always because I was under the assumption that if I went to a larger gym, all of us are in the same space of not knowing what we’re doing. Of course that simply isn’t true. So I started coming here because Dan inspired me to feel confident and safe to be in a “family” dynamic if you will where I know if I have a question about lifting etc, I am going to get the answers I need. I love working with Dan! He’s very good at what he does and teaches how to properly lift without invoking feelings of guilt or embarrassment. He knows we are genuinely learning! It’s a wonderful space to work out in and if you try going once, I would be very surprised if you don’t stay. And that’s just the way I...
