My family with a group of seven were fortunate to have made reservations for outside on a beautiful PNW summer evening. Although it was a full house, it felt relaxed and like there were plenty of staff waiting on everyone.
Our first compliments are to the staff. They have excellent customer service skills as any top tier restaurant should have. They anticipate your needs, and are very quick to help you. Everyone on staff seemed to work as a team, and overall, appeared to enjoy their jobs and the time spent with the guests. Our waiter, Adan, was so kind and professional and kept a sense of humor in attending to our larger group even though I could see he was keeping busy. Some point after our food was served a number of wasps were attracted to our meals, making it rather challenging to eat without fear of being stung. Adan and other staff quickly helped us get situated at a table inside so we could finish our meals. We really appreciated how gracious and accommodating they all were as we didn't want to be a bother or come across as entitled or demanding guests.
The food is truly wonderful and authentic in the best of ways, so our next compliments go to the chefs and service workers! Sometimes foods like albondigas (a meatball soup) can be too oily and fatty, the one we ordered ranks in the top three that we've ever tasted (one being my boyfriend's Ecuadorian grandmother's recipe, the other at a restaurant in Old Town, San Diego, CA).
Lastly, the building and decorations are truly so much fun to look around at! Lovely hand painted tiles, details on the wood, chairs, fountains, and atmosphere in general. It could easily be dropped into Old Town and fit right in! Such a little charmer for being just off the busy road. Although we live about 45 minutes away we really look forward to coming back for more of that delicious food! (I tried the chicken fajita burrito, my boyfriend had a salad with steak and shrimp on it, got albondigas soup to-go, everyone else really enjoyed their food).
We recommend people interested in going during weekends or holidays, or busier times in general to make reservations ahead. This place is busy...
Read moreUpdate again 4/3: WOW!!!!! I cannot believe how kind and generous the staff is at this restaurant and the owner and assistant manager. Chicken flautas are one of my favorite meals that I would eat every day if I could. So I gave it another chance and ordered them again today, I talked to the owner via text, and he said to ask for the assistant manager Mariah, when placing my order, which I did. When I showed up to pay for it and pick it up, they handed me my food and drink and said it is complementary paid for. You don’t see that kind of kindness and generosity and care much anymore. I honestly was shocked. This is definitely a good family business that cares about their customers, they not only made a right wrong yesterday, but they went above and beyond today! Will ABSOLUTELY be continuing to order from here.
Edit/update(same day 4/2): the owner reached out to me personally and refunded my entire order and let me know there was a miscommunication/misunderstanding, and they thought I wanted chicken taquitos, which comes with corn tortillas. They were very kind and explained that if there’s ever issues in the future just call the restaurant directly because they want to make sure their customers are happy and taken care of. This was really appreciated and changed my opinion because it takes a lot to do something like this as most restaurants don’t really/truly care. I feel the owner Actually cares and definitely went out of their way to make it right.
4/2 I used to love ordering my food from here. They HAD good prices, and got stuff correct. But the last few times I’ve ordered (went back to give another chance) they’ve messed up. I always get the chicken flautas. I like the flour tortillas not the corn. The last couple times they’ve given me corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas. And see the picture, they charged me $18 for these tiny itty-bitty things. Suuuuper bummed. Don’t think I’ll be...
Read moreI had the combination plate with a chile relleno an enchilada with Mexican rice and Charo beans. The ground beef enchilada was very good but a little on the small side. The chile relleno was almost all breading with very little cheese and almost seemed like it was ground up and spread in a breading pocket. I would not order it again. Everywhere I have ever ordered Charo beans they were in a sauce with chorizo and bacon usually served in a cup or bowl. The beans here were cooked with onions and not much else that I could make out. Served almost dry on the plate with some cheese crumbles over the top. Not nearly as good as I have had anywhere else. I also would not order this again. I am not a fan of Mexican rice so I didn't try it. The atmosphere and service was fantastic, absolutely no complaints about the service. I am not from this area so it will be a year or so before I am able to give them another try. I really hope that they find a new recipe for the Charo beans as it was the biggest let down of the entire meal but the chile relleno ran a very close second. Most everything had a good flavor and their hot sauce was excellent but in my opinion they really missed the mark. The only reason they got 3 stars on the food is because some things were seasoned very well and tasty otherwise it would be lower. Beans are a staple in Mexican food and Charo beans are an upscale from refried beans but not in this restaurant. I really hope they do much better next year. My sister had the ground beef quesadillas appetizer for her meal and just loved them.
Reply to owner: I asked the server if you had Charo beans and he said yes. I know where I was at and it came up automatically on my phone. I'm not sure what kind of beans I was served but I know what I asked for and...
