I’m rating this place a few stars because I know the concept is solid and has great potential. However the experience was odd to say the least. I had been looking forward to coming here for a while since it’s the only place nearby that sells filament and supplies. I’m hoping somebody at corporate can take my suggestions to heart. When I first pulled up it seemed closed. When I opened the door, it was dark and nobody seemed to be inside. After couple seconds I saw a person sitting behind the counter. No welcome. I introduced myself and saw a printer that was running but after looking at it the print had failed. So I mentioned it to the guy who came around the desk and proceeded to work on cleaning the bed off. Still very little interaction. All interaction was initiated by the customer. As I was walking around and browsing another customer came in with his son, and began to ask questions. Perfect opportunity to introduce yourself and see how you can help. From the other side of the room I can hear the awkward exchange. I came around and began to talk with the customer and was able to help the associate. After a few minutes the associate wasn’t able to close a deal and the customer left. I proceeded to ask if he could check me out. Which he stated he would and then proceeded to take 10 minutes to look for a new customer sheet. Then proceeded to ring me up for another 10 minutes. During which another customer came in with his son. Same situation, the associate didn’t introduce himself and let the customer do the talking. While he was ringing me up the associate made a comment out loud, that implied it was very busy, that customer were coming in one after another. Which seemed to make the other customer mad, I tried to engaged but honestly it’s not my job. The other customer was here interested in 3D printing. But you have no time to say hello and see what they need. This caused the other customer to leave. At this point I was still waiting to be checked out. Finally this was over with and I was able to leave. In a matter of 45 minutes he made one sale and ran of two other customers. It’s not sustainable. Here are my suggestions. The store is dark and dreary. Add some more light. It’s quiet add some cheap Bluetooth speakers and play some music. Having pricing accessible to see. Improve the ringing up system because it took way too long. Do away with the paper system of taking customers information down and have them enter it in a google form document. Move the printers that are actively being used to the back so that if there is a fail a new customer won’t see it. Especially if they are just getting into the hobby. Trying telling the associate to be on the floor unless you’re ringing somebody up and to say hello when you walk through the door. He needs to shave, put on a polo with the companies logo he’s not representing your company well. Put some signs up that show where the filament you’re looking for is at. Keep in mind these are all no or low expense improvements that would make a tremendous difference. I have more suggestions but I think you...
Read moreNew edit: (I tightened the belt after opening it up, as the manufacturer guided me to do and all is well) The owner has responded. I appreciate the offer to help. However, the response claims the printers are 'factory-sealed,' while also admitting they break that seal to open them and apply 'warranty void' stickers. This is a direct contradiction and the core of my initial complaint. Customers should be aware that 'brand-new' from this store does not mean the box is factory-sealed and untampered with.
While these stickers are legally unenforceable under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act in the United States, their presence is misleading, and can prevent otherwise simple self-repairs from being done by those who are unaware of this, potentially costing those same people more money in the long run.
Edit: actually I was wrong about missing stuff. Deleted that part due to learning that the manufacturer stopped shipping out full tool kits with the printers. Other stuff still applies.
Original: I bought what I imagined to be a brand new, never opened, 3d printer, and it's been starting to have a minor problem with the y axis belt,
so I researched how to reseat the belt and make sure its tensioned, and when I flip it over, wouldn't you know it, there's two "BuildVolume" stickers blocking off the screws that say, "warranty void if removed".
I have two issues with that. One, someone was already in the box I bought labeled new, and now suddenly has issues. How can I trust for a second that this wasn't an intentionally repackaged faulty product? That really blows, and I won't buy any printers here again.
And 2, all over the order receipt it said "no returns, exchanges, all sales final, etc," I was never offered a warranty except through the manufacturer, who informed me that buildvolume's sticker has no bearing on their warranty. So, like, why are yall putting those stickers on lol? There's...
Read moreI purchased a new $250,000 Desktop Metal Studio 2 System from Build Volume nearly three years ago. 1: They shipped a refurbished system to my facility. I don't think they anticipated Desktop Metal putting a refurb sticker on the outside of the box. That's how we discovered the fraud. 2: They rushed the installation. The furnace had/has a pronounced bulge in the top. 3: They didn't provide the required training. Because the team was behind schedule in the install, they kept cancelling our training time. 4: They lied to us and said "We have all these print requests. We can service the requests. You'll be overflowing with work and the system will pay for itself in 3-4 months." We've never gotten a single order. And they STILL use this sales tactic on customers. 5: They did not properly evaluate our site for humidity and temperature. 6: They have REFUSED to repair the furnace for ALMOST A FULL YEAR.
We have used the system THREE TIMES in three years. They won't refund the money nor will they repair it.
If you scroll through the reviews, you'll find I'm not the only customer who receives used goods misrepresented as new.
The owner ruined his reputation with other 3D printing companies in South Africa. Now, he has come to our country and he's doing the same thing. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. This company is INCREDIBLY unethical.
Only hours after posting this accurate and factual review, the owner paid an attorney in South Africa to threaten me. The attorney doesn't have the right to practice law in the United States and violated Texas' TCPA by threatening to sue me if I don't remove this review. The owner doesn't respect Texas law and is actively attempting to suppress my First Amendment Rights. What he should do is merely...
