While vacationing at the shore I decided to learn a little about surf fishing. A young man at the Fisherman's Den was very helpful. He said he talks too much, but every word was an education for me. I bought a very inexpensive Shakespeare rig and some tackle. The prices seem very fair and I got a lot of info I'd never get at a big box store. For less than a hundred bucks, my son and I are catching fish. No keepers yet, but having a blast. At some point I'll go back and get a better rod and reel set up or two, however what we bought served the purpose of getting us started to see if we enjoy it enough to continue. Read moreI usually buy my green crabs from Mac’s bait and tackle. “Good size” green crabs for $9 and you get about 2 dozen in a bag. I went to Fisherman’s Den a couple of times in December and noticed a pattern. I bought two dozen and about 8-9 of them are so freaking small you cant even hook em with a 3/0 hook. Yesterday, I bought 4dz and between my friend and I we counted about 20 tiny crabs, smaller than a penny.
If your not a regular watch out for they conniving guys. They will save the good size for their regulars. They lost a few customers....
