Love this place. I go during the day when kids are in school. After school let's out, this place can get really crowded to the point that there's a wait for some of the equipment. During first shift hours, I rarely have to wait for a machine and if so, it's only one. I especially love the drop-in childcare. It is literally the most important feature offered and is the whole reason I am even able to be a gym rat.
I purchase personal training packages and work with a personal trainer. I really love that this is offered as an option because I'm afraid to injure myself by working out alone. I was working with Christian K for a long time, but he's recently taken another job closer to home. I was sad to see him go as he was a really great trainer who was very careful to listen closely to my needs. I had a few injuries to work around and he really brought his A game each training session. I felt safe performing the strength exercises he had me do each day. I felt safe in his care and knew I wouldn't leave with another injury. And with a bachelors degree in some sort of physical sciences area, he was always able to explain a lot of the science behind the exercises he was having me do and what were safer alternatives to ones I couldn't do...
Now that he's left, I've signed up to train with Tia. So far, her energy has been great. Her presence alone is motivating. She seems excited to be there doing her job. I'm excited to see where my health journey can go with someone like Tia on my team.
For my kids- they love everything that is offered. They love swimming and the kids lounge area, "hangout room" or whatever it's called. My son frequently signs up for the different sports offerings. I feel like the time frames are nice because they don't require a significantly long commitment. Our family travels a lot so it was nice for my son to be on a basketball team, and it was nice for us because the timeframe didn't interrupt our travels. It works out beautifully. He had signed up for karate but discovered it wasn't for him. Benny G is a great instructor though, so if your kid is into martial arts, you'll like him. Good guy. There's a really cool indoor playground upstairs but Covid kinda wrecked that one for the kids. Hopefully one day it will be filled with kids laughing and playing again. Probably signing up for swim...
Read moreNot a fan of the hours. Also not sure if it's the kids they have working the pool, or if it's just the way the new one is. I'm not one to go wild and crazy but when I'm playing with my three year old in the splash pad and I constantly have teenage lifeguards yelling at me, or my kids for absolutely pointless/harmless things like I'm a little kid I'm not going to continue to spend this much every month. Not when there's options like Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness for a portion of the price. I would expect it if we were roughhousing or doing chicken fights or something like that, but when it happens every time we go up there for absolutely Petty things, Im over it. One of the times my three-year-old ,in his life jacket, had his arms around my neck and was hanging on my back while I swim because he can't swim, they said I can't have them on my shoulders. I told the little girl he's not on my shoulders he's hanging on to my neck because he can't swim. She says it's not allowed. In the splash pad they have the things you step on and it shoots water up in the air and typical kids will step on the hole when they figure out that it makes the other one shoot higher, and she yelled at him for this. Another time we were using the water cannons in the splash pad and when he was turning he got the concrete a little bit, and she yelled at him for this. He didn't get it up by the chairs or people things, or even halfway up to the little room where the lifeguards are always in talking , we're talking the concrete immediately outside of the splash pad . So We're not talking about things that are going to destroy the property or ruin anything, but when you're 31 years old and you're out trying to have a little fun with your kids, and you got a teenager with the Lifeguard badge talking to you like the little kid, whats my incentive to pay the extra cash? I think I'll just save my money and put my pool back up this year and go to a different workout...
Read moreThis is a great place for kids! My 8 year old loves the hangout area, the pool, her extracurricular classes (dance, swimming lessons, gymnastics) and can walk the track with me to get a little exercise; however, on the flip side, until she is 10, she is limited on what she can use in the facility and the timeframe she can use the track and pool. Overall, it is still far more accommodating for kids then a regular gym. That being said, for an adult over 30, it also has its limitations. I love their walking track, but the pool and class offerings are comparable to other area gyms. Their weights area is tightly packed if you are trying to get any weights in after 4pm. Im not a big fan of a** to elbows when trying to lift anything, especially around groups of teen boys. My current gym has a women's only area and separate workout rooms if you wanna be alone….I absolutely love it. Plenty of space and privacy. I wish the YMCA could incorporate that as well, but that would also require space I don't think they have. They are an amazing place for kids, and the staff is friendly and inviting, so I will continue to go there, but I will have to find another alternative to weight training if I am going to drop my other gym membership...
