I had to visit this ER twice in one week with what turned out to be Salmonellosis. The doctors office was booked, and there was no way I could make it to Bozeman, so the receptionist referred me to the ER. I can say both visits were absolutely horrific experiences. The doctors would not listen to me when I said I had food poisoning or something very wrong. In addition to my intestinal symptoms, I had excruciating joint pain, which was completely ignored. I was sent home, misdiagnosed with a stomach virus, only to return 2 days later in worse condition. My husband and I again try to convince the doctor that this is something more than a bug, but the doctor says there is really nothing else it could be. They did run more tests right before they discharged me (again misdiagnosed with stomach virus). That evening around 7 they call me to say it’s Salmonella, and they have antibiotics for me but I can’t get them until the next day…what??? so, I didn’t get the proper treatment until 5 days into my illness!
I saw three different doctors during the 2 visits. Two younger ones were totally dismissive, ignored my discomfort, and treated me as if I was being overdramatic. One was dressed like he was going mountain biking. Neither one listened to me when I said I was sicker than they thought I was. They both asked what my pain level was, but neither treated it when I said it was a 9-10 (I’ve had kidney stones & given birth, so definitely familiar with the pain scale). I had to beg for a Tylenol on my second visit, which took them a whole hour to get! I’m sure they probably assumed I was a drug seeker, they definitely thought I was being a big baby, when in fact I was just much more ill than they thought. The only doctor who had a shred of bedside manor was Dr. Weber, who came in later on my first visit because the shift change. He’s obviously a lot more experienced than the other two, Hess and Mitchell.
I can say, I’m completely freaked out to ever see a doctor again at this facility. Unfortunately, it’s now our only choice, as these "ER doctors" are also the family practice physicians. I’ve never experienced treatment this poor. On top of that, now I have to pay Emergency Room priced bills!
Big Sky used to have a great walk in clinic. Bozeman Health acquired it and got rid of the doctor who ran it for decades, so we no longer have an Urgent Care option. Now you either have to be able to get an appointment, or go to the ER if you can’t make it to an Urgent Care in Bozeman....
Read moreI’m a Carpenter who works up the hill in big sky. I came down after being impaled through my left hand with a very large splinter. I had thought that I had pulled most of the splinter out. I went down to big sky to have them x-ray and confirm that I had the fragments removed. I was told that there were no more pieces, and that what I was looking at on the x-ray was just blood clotting, and nothing to worry about. I was immediately dismissed back to work. And I actually had to ask them to clean and re-dress my wound. They were about to send me off with practically no treatment whatsoever, after having me wait in the waiting room for three hours, While telling me every 30 minutes that there’s a room ready for me any second.
After horrible 4 hour experience at big sky hospital to receive only one x-ray and bad information, I woke up the next morning with my hand still hurting with specific movements. I went to get a second opinion on Monday, after having waited in agony over the whole weekend, only to be told that there absolutely are still fragments of that splinter inside my hand. An MRI confirmed it. I had to have surgery to remove a splinter fragment that could have easily been removed up at the Big sky hospital at the time of my injury. If it wasn’t for their willful ignorance, neglect, I would’ve had proper treatment. They clearly take the wealthy ski trip patients more seriously than anyone coming in on Worker’s Comp. Avoid this hospital at all cost. Drive the extra hour and a half to Bozeman where you will be accurately diagnosed and treated properly. The only reason I’m not giving this hospital a one star review, is because the receptionist was very nice, very sweet, and very understanding. The back of houses were they have...
Read moreI came in 3/31/25, emergency vehicle brought me in from big ski resort with a blown knee, they got an IV in once I was in the ER. Took X-rays to determine if there were any broken bones ( their scans showed no break ). All the while I was moaning and crying in pain even after they pushed some form of opioid. Eventually one of the nurses came in and asked me “are you crying from the pain or the mental toll of this injury.” I was kind of taken aback even though it’s a fair question. I felt as though I was being more dramatic with the crying than my injury would’ve provoked me to be. Idk I just felt weird about the fact that I was gaslighting myself for two weeks that my injury wasn’t as severe as I thought it to be, considering they sent me away with crutches and a TERRIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE knee stabilizer. They said “well your bones look good so just try to see a doctor as soon as you’re home (SLC) in 6 days to assess if you actually damaged and tendons or ligaments, there is nothing more we can do for you.” Now I’m home 2 weeks later. Torn ACL, Torn meniscus, Fractured tibial plateau, strained MCL and LCL, still waiting to even meet with a surgeon. All that to say all I wish could’ve gone differently is the medical team who worked on me would’ve treated my pain and cooperation with more compassion, and sent me home with ANYTHING other than that god forsaken knee stabilizer I had to live with...
