Cable One has the Monopoly over At&t but both being huge corporations they have the head games they play. As the Gulf Coast I have heard all the excuses from the hookups payments etc. Cable One raises rates and the adds are primarily BOGUS. They tell you lightning fast, well for some yes but they screw you on the other end. You have to pay a month in advance, but then since they claim the payments dept, is outsourced it goes like this, you pay a month in advance yet the 3rd week of service your power fails or you cycle your modem it locks you out saying you are past due and to pay up! Now with that said imagine this happening every month like it did with us. The adds to a extra reconnect fee that after 12 months you loose approximately 3 months of service just in reconnect fees. This company can only get away with this since they are a monopoly in the area. Just for your info we had arrangements made with Corp in AZ and they adjusted are rate due to the hassles, but when we stopped are service they billed us for 3 months of regular service thus NOT honoring corporate agreements. Reason for ceasing service was law was past on not metering the bandwidth so cable one in turn sticks it to you should you hit your bandwidth. They implemented that you have to pay for a next level bandwidth. so it at 50mps they want force you to step up to the next level that in turn makes you pay more, that in turn STILL cuts you off then same metering. Folks when a local office don't honor a corporate agreement and they override such is NOT Customer Caring! So once we turned in the modem I made sure my wife got them to sign a receipt that it was returned with the proper numbers on it, and sure enough about 6 month after they tried to claim we never returned it, thus trying to false bill us. Folks are right about they figure no one has a job and we can hang around all day waiting for the tech to show only to find they know less about cable service then you do. Lines are maxed out in areas and they refuse to split or upgrade the Nodes, so if you have issue with constant drops and speed fluctuations just contact the Public Service Commission (Public Utility Commission) and the FCC as well and BBB so once these are filed the cable company has to address the issues. We did and that when Corp. made the agreement to compensate us we stopped service to moving and that is when they false billed us at the non agreed price corporate made with us. After a year and a half since we moved they also called about our service and my wife told them it had been disconnected a few days before we moved and someone was trying to use are name for service as well. I have no idea how a company can have employees that haven't the mentality to enter something in a computer right then try and blame a computer for the error.. Duh!
In the end we went with AT&T at 30mps and we have had a few issues with billing dates only. but service has been solid so far. No modems have crapped out either.
BUYER BEWARE! READ the TOS in FULL understand just how much lightning they offer!
Cable One service is like a bottle rocket, or as women say like a man in bed... go fast pop and time to pay up!
Never again Cable...
Read moreCable one has treated me VERY well since the day I got them, until the day I cancelled (A total of 6 months until my wife and I moved away).
If you are worried about 4K streaming, or gaming, or internet connectivity, then check out this review.
I was reluctant at first to sign up because there are a ton of terrible reviews. A TON. But to be totally honest if there were one thing I disliked about them, it's their local business hours which happened to conflict with my work hours. Not a big issue, not Cable one's fault.
Some advice to help Cable One newcomers. Buy your own router. I cannot stress this. I have a newer (fairly expensive, $175) router and I was able to pull 105-115 DL speeds when only paying for 100mb. You MUST call cable one and tell them to remotely shut off their router (called unabridging). There is something about the frequencies being so close to the modem that it will periodically drop you from the internet from time to time. THIS IS WHAT TICKS PEOPLE OFF. Especially during live streaming of games or watching Netflix, etc. Make Cable One's router/modem into a modem only (by remotely unabridging) and hook up your own router and you will NEVER have your this problem. This isn't a cable one issue as I have had this problem with MANY ISP's. Save yourself the time. Customer service reps aren't experts and won't tell you to do this. You won't need to call customer service EVER if you do this. I lived in D'iberville, and had 7 devices hooked up at once. (2 laptops, 2 tvs, 2 smart phones, and a PS4).
If you have a 4k tv and your watching a marathon on Netflix, you will rack up 100gb of data in one day easy! I have a PS4 and play Call of Duty daily. I cancelled the 4k netflix and opted for 1080p, and I NEVER ONCE went over my data.
I asked Cable One what happens if I did go over data and I forgot what they told me to be honest, but it wasn't something unfair If I recall correctly. But I will refrain from telling you incorrect information.
Laslty, You WILL experience lag in your gaming if your DOWNLOADING something from your CPU and you're trying to game on a PS4.
I've never had PS4 lag when streaming Netflix 1080p from one tv and playing PS4 on the other 1080p...
Read moreI'm from Miami and pay my mother's ISP monthly bill in Biloxi, which is not out of line as internet providers go nationally and I've certainly had my share. I moved to Miami from LA, need I say much more? The mobile and cable monopolies propped up by the FCC and Congress legislation for the telecommunications industry are really putting it to us in the US and this is not conspiracy fanaticism talking here folks, I travel and work in Europe and Asia frequently. But I digress. I recently visited my mother and naturally my work travels with me, so I consume a fair amount of data on a weekly basis. Recently in the past couple of days I was surprised that I got an email from Cable One warning me of data usage that exceeded the 50G data plan, having used 176G. My own fault for not paying closer attention to what the data plan actually is having assuming it was much higher. Surprised because I got a one time warning, no charge. Thanks Cable One because Comcast in Miami and Time Warner in LA are not so forgiving and automatically bill the data overage with extreme prejudice. My experience over the last x number of years is that every year there is less service, more cost and increasingly bad customer support all across the US. In my hometown Miami, I did the unthinkable. Termination of the big ISP in lieu of a tiny upstart company in San Francisco called "Webpass" and truly could not be happier. Well, okay, if it is free maybe I would be happier but that fantasy place only exists in my dreams. Went from +$200 a month with extras every month to a flat $60 a month. Blinding download/upload synchronous speeds AND no data limits at all, really! However, I do understand and can sympathize with the frustrations of others regarding ISP and cable...
