Finest Kind — Local services in Boothbay Harbor

Today was my second visit to Finest Kind and let me tell you, my experience today was EVEN BETTER than my first visit… and I never thought that would be possible. From the warm greeting I received upon entering, to the awesome selection of music that was playing, to just the right amount of help being offered while I shopped, to the reasonable prices, to a great conversation while I paid for my haul of goodies… everything about today’s visit was just perfect.

What did I buy? Well… though I wished for so many things, I’m traveling and space in my luggage is tight. There were several antique brass trays that were absolutely gorgeous, a few bronze pieces I was quite interested in, an amazing array of true vintage and antique jewelry - including Victorian Mourning Jewelry, a surprising amount of ladies vanity items, and vintage hats that were in such good condition they’d be completely wearable. I ended up very happily walking away with a magnificent 24k gold filigree and glass vanity box, a hand carved wooden box, and an Italian tray with brass cutwork trim and flower inlay.

If you’re in the Boothbay area, do yourself a favor and stop in. Pick up a little something that reminds you of the great trip you’re on. Not a made in China plastic lobster magnet for the refrigerator… but instead, for instance… how about a shiny antique silver spoon to stir your coffee or tea with each morning when you get back home, to remind yourself of those gorgeous sun-shiny days you spent on vacation in Maine, lazily sipping your coffee or...

I travel to Boothbay Harbor every year and I also shop local stores for to help their commerce. I have patronized this store on two other separate occasions and never really had a problem. Unfortunately like most stores they do contain a certain amount of reproduction Chinese items that are over priced. Sometimes you do need a closer look to make an informed decision before a purchase. I had placed a repro sign for "Old Town Canoes" on the counter in which I intended to purchase, when a particular pocket knife in the case caught my eye. I asked to see it as I wanted to inspect it as the original company "Imperial Schrade" is out of business and cheap copies are made in China. I took a picture so I could read the writing as the lighting is very dim. Unfortunately now I digress, upon taking picture the owner decided she wanted to admonish me for taking said picture and called me rude. She further tried to placate me and speak to me as if I was her child. After her tirade I simply apologized and informed her I would not be buying the sign and left. I further digress by saying this absolute miserable waste of human flesh deserves no patronage and hope she goes out...

I was a customer of this store 5 years ago and at that time was with two girlfriends and we had the best time shopping here. Bought four hats, the owner took photos with us and our hats and we wore them throughout our Maine roadtrip. It was always a special Memory for my friends and me. Returning with my boyfriend to booth bay yesterday I was so excited to find the store and showed the owner one of the photos from 2019. To my astonishment she barked at me “ You shouldn’t have taken pictures in my store!” Before I could tell her we bought four hats and SHE took photos with us , she walked off. Needless to say we left the store and will never go back. She lost a good customer and dampened a great memory ! I could not believe how mean and rude she was. She followed us out of the store and said something about it being a long day. And people taking photos without buying. But I was not one of those people and still got her wrath. Shame on her. By the looks of the reviews I am not the only one...
