It has taken me several months to write this review. My mom spent a little over a month here and was PHYSICALLY ABUSED by more than one staff person. The first time, the staff were responsive though it seemed the second time her roommate spoke up in tears about both events. Her roommate called the gentleman whose posters are all over the walls stating to call anytime and he hung up on her! When I called him later after learning of the second event he chuckled and hung up on me too. My mother is a stroke survivor. She’s verbal, vibrant paralyzed on the left side so she yelled, screamed and kicked as much as she could to get the CNA off her back and when she shared what happened after telling her therapist the staff assured us the CNA wouldn’t return. A week later her friend closed the door in retaliation and both my mom and her roommate screamed out. After calling the gentleman they rushed to her room and removed the CNA. My mom called me and I immediately called the social worker; my siblings were up there in minutes and an emergency meeting held without us and we were advised everything was confidential, etc and soon after (days) my mom was scheduled for discharge. This is our true story and being honest none of these places are great but this place is horrible and knowingly allows the residents to be abused. When I called the morning after the second event they put me on hold and never mentioned an altercation. Most are limited by insurance but the state has to do better. The stars do not reflect the truth rather terms of accreditation. The rehab is the worst and the staff are demons being paid to care for our...
Read moreWhen we were looking for a facility for my brother, who had recently suffered a severe head injury, we thought the four-star rating earned by Sherrill House was a sign of a first class facility in every way. We were wrong. Afterwards we found out that stars are given based on the number of registered nurses employed by the facility and in no way measure care or compassion. My brother told us that being there was the worst experience of his entire life. He had just spent over a month at Mass General and Spaulding House. My sister took him out of Sherrill House and brought him to her home in Connecticut so that he could continue with his recovery because he was starting to go backwards with his recovery there. I gave a two-star rating as a thank you for the staff that did treat my brother and my sister with respect. His physical therapist was extremely caring. To wake up a person at midnight from a deep sleep and put them in a wheelchair and make them stay in a brightly lit room until 11:00 am the next day is unacceptable. To yell at a person who is trying to recover from a brain injury is unacceptable. To ignore a person’s request to be cleaned and make them lay in their own waste for five hours and then laugh at them is unacceptable. All people should be treated with compassion and dignity. I can only hope that those people who were so insensitive to my brother never receive treatment as they gave to him should they ever have to be in a nursing/rehabilitation center. I would not wish...
Read moreMy personal experience with the Sherrill House was outstanding. I transferred my mother to this facility from CareOne at Brookline. I saw the drastic change from one place to another. I liked the welcoming greeting from the staff. The staff is friendly, willing to help, and available to assist patients. I loved the welcoming basket, which included daily essentials like a water jar, tissues, shampoo, body wash, lotion, and other goodies. The staff was good-natured, and I enjoyed that because I had just transferred my mother from another facility that was not good. The team checked on the patients frequently, and I visited my mother every day, so I saw the team ensuring she was getting her meals, and fluids, assisting with the bathroom, and changing her clothing/diapers. The only area for improvement was when my mother was discharged; they should have provided exercises for my mother to continue doing, which was missed. My mother had surgery for her right hip after a fall and needed rehab for recovery. The team from the hospital my mother attends brought that to my attention stating the exercises are essential to help my mother not to lose any of her abilities. The physical therapist from Sherrill House would come by to do the exercises but didn't instruct activities to do at home after discharge. Overall, my mother's experience was better than another facility she was in; I compared the two, and I would recommend...
