I first met Sophie Hughes at her shop almost 10 years ago when I was searching for my (now) wife’s engagement ring. I was surprised and relieved to find that from the very beginning, Sophie and her team made the experience personal, smooth, relaxed, creative and fun. Knowing now that for so many people, buying an engagement ring can be the opposite — high stress, high pressure, sterile, uptight, pretentious and confusing — I’m even more grateful all these years later. Sophie doesn’t just make beautiful jewelry — she’s also precise, super knowledgeable, creative and thoughtful. Somehow, she’s laid-back enough (and generous enough with her time, expertise and talent) to make you feel like you can ask any question along the way to finding the perfect piece. And talk about someone who knows and loves their craft -- I've literally walked by and seen Sophie in a welding mask... or those cartoonish multi-lens magnifying goggles... tinkering or hammering on an anvil... styling/staging photo shoots... etc., etc., etc.. Seeing that level of dedication is a reminder that this isn't just a shop, and she’s not just selling jewelry. It’s appreciably more than that.
Lastly: my wife's favorite earrings are from Sophie Hughes. A few years ago, one of them was lost during a road trip when we stopped for lunch in a little town 3-4 hrs from Boston. When she realized one was missing, we drove back as soon as we could. We retraced our steps through restaurants and shops... went to the town hall and police department to see if it was in a lost and found... and even knocked on the front door of a woman whose tag sale we had pulled over at (and then combed through her whole front yard). No dice. The following Christmas, I asked Sophie if I could possibly buy just one of the earrings. Not only was she willing to make this oddball request work -- but she also had me bring in the remaining earring so she could make a replacement that would be a perfect match. Thanks again, Sophie & Team, for everything...
Read moreAll my experiences at Ore have been truly wonderful! My fiancé got my engagement ring at Ore and it couldn’t have been more beautiful. We cannot wait to return to buy our wedding bands! I love the uniqueness and character each piece of jewelry holds. They make it their mission to provide ethical, responsibly sources, and locally made jewelry. Both my grandparents are artists and I have always appreciated the artist community. Sophie Hughes and her team are truly gifted artists and I am so glad I can support them. My fiancé and I are young and both in the military. It is very hard to find the time in our busy lives. On top of all that, I know my fiancé was a little overwhelmed by buying an engagement ring/fine jewelry for the first time. The Ore team took the time to get to know my fiancé, myself, and our lives to create an engagement ring that would fit me perfectly. Furthermore, my fiancé worked with the team at Ore and was able to get my engagement ring to him quickly so he could propose before I was deployed. Recently, I was visiting my fiancé who is stationed in Boston (I live in Florida) and I needed my ring sized. Right as I began to talk to Lia, it was like she already knew me! She remembered my fiancé and I’s names and our story. It made me feel right at home. The team at Ore was able to get me my ring to me with in a couple days before I had to fly back to Florida. I am so happy with the Ore team, their jewelry, and their overall mission that I plan to be a loyal customer and buy my jewelry from them for years to come. Thank you, Sophie and team, for...
Read moreI can't overstate how incredible it was working with Sophie, Lia and Olga at Ore! My (now) husband and I were planning our nuptials in under 8 weeks and I'm so glad one of our first stops was to the shop to get our wedding bands started. I've been a huge fan of Sophie for several years now and knew her range of jewelry designs and custom pieces would satisfy what each of us was looking for. Our consultation was incredibly informative and we learned a lot of the nuanced differences between metals and design choices. With a surprising amount of ease, we were able to create a set of customized wedding bands based on Sophie's previous designs and offerings that were totally unique to us, and we absolutely love them! My husband opted for the wide flat band with matte finish in green gold, and I went for a two-toned tapered band in gray gold with green gold overlay, with Sophie's signature hammered finish. I love the layered dimension that's built into such a clean design.
We were so grateful to Sophie & her team for working within our super tight timeline. It was abundantly clear through all our interactions that they are so invested in, and excited about, each couple, and individual person, who walks through the door. Whether your wedding is an intimate elopement or a 300 person multi-day affair, the rings are one of—if not the singular—component of all the planning that actually become a part of your marriage itself. I have no doubt that the staff at Ore know this to be true, and could not recommend a better place to go when the stakes...
