Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of dining at Vejigantes Restaurant in Boston, a gem that was recommended by a friend. Let me tell you, it absolutely lived up to the hype! From the moment we stepped in, the vibrant atmosphere and the warm welcome made us feel right at home. The food, oh the food, was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish was seasoned to perfection, bringing the authentic flavors of Puerto Rico right to our table. It was a culinary journey that reminded me of my visits to the island, filled with rich flavors and a variety of choices that catered to every palate. The menu was impressively diverse, making it hard to choose because everything sounded incredibly tempting. Not to be outdone, the drinks were a highlight on their own. Creative, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the meal. It’s clear that Vejigantes pays attention to every detail to ensure a memorable dining experience. But what truly sets Vejigantes apart is the service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and genuinely cared about making our experience special. They went above and beyond, which is a rarity these days. For anyone in the Boston area craving authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, Vejigantes is a must-visit. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a taste of Puerto Rico right here in the city. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!

Family get together settled on Puerto Rican cuisine at a Boston South End mainstay in Little Puerto Rico, Vejigantes- traditional masks and symbol of strength, identity, and the best of the people of Puerto Rico are displayed on the walls and in the cuisine. Our party sampled a wude selection in the menu from the simple chayote con berenjana guisada-chayote and eggplant stew, Pechuga Rellena De Chorizo Y Maduros-chorizo in chicken breast with maduro plantain, pechuga empanizada or breaded chicken, pollo frito or fried chicken, mofongo tradicional de platano. Churrasco con salsa chimichurri, to the complex mar chiquita te amo or mofongo with churrasco and shrimp and the paella marinera artisanal - the socarrat replicated grated green plantain fried to a crisp as the paella base and a lobster tail as topping. One more dish ordered but served as sn afterthought- probably forgotten until reminded was the chuleta kan-kan, strip of pork with skin deeply fried and made to stand ala can can. Needless to say dinner turned out to be a tasting event, and it lived up to expectation! Delicious and filling. Service was friendly, helpful and relatively quick. Ambiance complemented by lively latin tempos.

Hmmm where to begin....ok, so this establishment was recommended to us from a friend, whom I can say, has very fine taste when it comes to where they spend their money. It was to our benefit that we experience whatever this restaurant had to offer and make note on how our lives would be better because of it. None of that happened or was felt. Let's start with the service. Not gonna lie, atrocious. I know, it's not always fair to put too much emphasis on the service of an establishment but why did it take 35 min to get water?! Why did we have to ask 3 different personnel for napkins? I'm still not even sure who I paid to be honest, someone I had never seen before just dropped a check on our table and a different person picked it up 🤷🏾♂️. Moving forward, the ambiance: pretty on brand for what they're selling, I enjoyed the variety of colors and artwork used to convey the idea of family and traditions. Next up, and if not the most important, the food. Both items were plated welI and I found what I ordered to be delicious. The seasonings played well with each other and I enjoyed my plate, saving a bit for lunch for the next day. My partner on the other hand ordered the steak and was not totally impressed with the seasoning, after tasting some of it I concured that there was a slight missing of what needed to be and though it wasn't a complete disappointment it was something to note. All-in-all this is lovely venue with great options if your in the mood for relatively authentic dishes from PR. Just don't expect 5-star or even 4-star service...like at all.

If you are looking for authentic puertorrican cuisine, this is the place. After relocating from Puerto Rico to Connecticut, I've been home sick a lot. I missed the food and went to different latin restaurants looking for the same flavors from home. I was always dissapointed. Food was meh and dry. Vejigantes was different. I felt I was eating in Old San Juan. From the decoration, the music, the flavor and the overall experience, it was very good. I ordered a sampler "surtido" and they had bacalaitos, bolitas de mofongo, alcapurrias and sorullitos. Very very good. The alcapurrias were heavenly. My partner ordered a mofongo relleno de camarones. I ordered a Mofonguito sampler, which are three mofongos one with churrasco, one with shrimp and the other with lobster. Mofongos are hard to cook because if you do not add enough butter, they are very dry. I am pleased to say the mofongo was perfect in salsa criolla. Lots of flavor. I am in love. We also had mojitos and Don Q with cranberry juice. Very very good. For dessert we had a flan de queso. Lovely! I will be back!

I took my husband to this Puerto Rican 🇵🇷restaurant in Boston. I’m half Boricua (my father’s side) I left La Isla del Encanto once I graduated from HS, so to me was going back to my childhood memories. The only bad thing I have to say about this place is PARKING is a hassle!!! Other than that is all good! Our waiter was very polite and funny too. We ordered a lot of different things- appetizers and had plenty to bring back home. The portions of the main dishes are more than enough for two people to share. We ordered “Variedad de Luquillo” los sorullitos tasted just like my mom’s, that incomparable saborcito a mantequilla, ahhhh los bacalaitos, las alcapurrias transported me back in time when we used to go a Luquillo y Piñones a “chinchorrear” (food truck). We also order “ Mofongo Sampler”. My husband ordered “Paella Marinera Tradicional” he said it was really really good. I ordered “Pechuga Rellena de Chorizo y Maduro” and it came with rice and beans. OMG!!! Sooooo good! The service and the attention was excellent.

I used to drive over a hour to go to this place but the last time wasn't a good experience, I had the mofongo sampler and it was dry with no flavor someone on my table order yellow rice and I thought it was a joke the rice was black and tasted burnt, for the money we spent which was a lot the least I expect is consistency. Update. I decided to try the place again since the first few times was good, I wish I didn't, the prices on the menu were different than what I got charged, the wait is long, the service is bad, we asked for a spoon three times to two different servers and never got it, I got charged extra for a side on my meal which I was never told was extra. For 31$ a plate you can get more quality at any corner store and a lot cheaper. I don't like leaving bad reviews like this but I feel robbed.
