Went to Capri last week with my family. We had a reservation set for 9:30pm and got there a little early so we sat by the fireplace upon arrival.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere is amazing and it has a gorgeous interior. Wish there were more lights in the downstairs outside patio. The fireplace is gorgeous but some lanterns would really help. It was a little confusing when entering the restaurant. You can either walk directly to the downstairs outside patio area or a single door entrance close by. Wish there was a little more lighting around the main entrance. My group and a few other people behind us were confused as to where to enter
Drinks: We ordered some drinks around the patio. Drinks were decent. We were told that there was amaretto at the main bar not the one outside so my husband wasn’t able to get me an amaretto sour. After sitting down at one of the patio tables and requesting the same drink, our waitress was able to grab it for us from upstairs. A little wonky but we still got the drink. It tasted great but when we ordered the same drink later that night we were charged different prices at the main dining area versus the outdoor patio.
Main Dining/Food: We were seated at the main dining area which was gorgeous. The menu had some fairly pricy items. I wasn’t enamored at the fact that each cheese plate did not come with bread. It seamed like you had to pay a separate larger amount to receive bread/crackers with their broad cheese and meat selection. Also the pricing thing is crazy. Considering their portion sizes, I don’t believe paying mid to high 20s for meat and cheese is okay. If I remember correctly the 2 bread plates were $15-$20 which feels outrageous since even a few pieces of bread should be included with the meant and cheese dishes. Again, we did not order a wide selection of their cheese and meat plates so this may be a mischaracterization.
Our food came out almost an hour and half after placing our order with our waitress which was disappointing. Our waitress was very kind. However, I’m not sure if it was due to a lack of communication with the kitchen but we waited almost 20-30 minutes before learning that the focaccia was out of stock. This along with the long wait time, was unfortunate.
When our food arrived it was cold in certain places and warm in others. I ordered the chicken parm and it came luke warm. Due to the large size of the cut of meat and thickness, the meal seamed so clunky. The closeness of various foods and warmth of others made it appear that their timing or plating was the issue. To wait almost two hours and have the food come out cold was really upsetting. We sent my plate back to be reheated and it came out pretty much the same temp. My husband’s fish was like warm and some of his tomatoes were randomly cold. Thankfully the manager was able to comp our entrees due to this situation however the meal still totalled close to $100.
Deserts: By the time we received our food we wanted to order desert however they were out of the one item we really wanted. It felt like because we waited so long for our mains, the kitchen ended up being out of a bunch of things by the time we were served. We ordered the strawberry cake and chocolate mouse. The strawberry cake was okay, not very flavorful, very light, nothing to write home about. The chocolate mouse was missing something, possibly a temperature contrast since it came like warm not very chilled. Wish we could’ve tired the peach dish.
Service: Our waitress at the patio was very kind and so was our main waitress. The male host that assisted us upon arrival was kind but made some jokes that felt uncomfortable and slightly sassy. Not sure what that was about but thought I’d mention it since it left a weird taste in mine and my family’s mouths.
I had heard so many positive reviews of this place from influencers online, however it now seems overhyped. Would love to come back if they’re able to improve but there are many other...
Read moreWent here a few weeks ago on a Sunday. We stayed outside on the patio. The first thing I want to call out were the incredibly weird and off-putting hostesses that greeted - or rather- just started blankly past me when I arrived. They were two white, petite brunettes who had facial expressions like they loathed interacting with people. It was an extremely weird and unpleasant vibe right off the bat, because they refused to make eye contact and looked bothered/upset. I was there to meet my sisters who had already grabbed seating and I explained that to them. Silence. No acknowledgement that I even spoke. After finding my sisters at the outdoor high table near the windows, we decided to order some drinks. There were three bartenders working there at that time, two men and one woman. The two male bartenders ignored me (after making direct eye contact several times) but the female bartender was kind and after a few minutes she noticed I was waiting for service. She took my drink order but when I started to put in some appetizers, she stopped me and explained she could not take my food order because we were seated at the high table and not the actual physical bar which was first come first serve. The bar was full with no seating available. I felt bad for the bartender because I could tell she was embarrassed to have to explain this bizarre and stupid policy to me. So we ended up having to wait for someone to leave so we could order some food. After almost an hour, someone finally left and I was able to order. We got the honey buns and the meatballs to start. The honey buns were good and the meatballs were very average. We later shared the Rigotoni alla bolognese and the Graganelli alla polo. Both were just okay, nothing extraordinary.
The cocktails were great. I would say they have a strong cocktail program but they need to work on what will make them stand out, food-wise. The restaurant and patio is gorgeous with a beautiful design and stunning decor. The outdoor fireplace was the perfect fall touch.
They need to retrain their hostesses on proper etiquette. Staring ahead, purposely, to make your customers feel they are bothering you by even approaching you is not it. I did not feel welcomed and as a POC, that's extremely concerning for obvious reasons. That demeanor at the door just isn't going to fly, especially in Boston. This isn't New York or Miami and your establishment isn't going to change that. If you want to be rude and uppity at the door, at least choose the right city for that. There are dads wearing New Balances...
Read moreI would say the atmosphere isnt anything to rave about. Capri is nicely decorated, the food was decent for the price and the outdoor bar is awesome!— but honestly, an Italian restaurant like this is a dime a dozen.
I’m not one to complain about service. Even with bad service, I usually tip 20%. Tonight at Capri was the only exception in my life. We waited over an hour just to get our order in (only after my wife asked another staff member to find our waiter). When he finally returned, there was no acknowledgment of the delay — just a passive-aggressive attitude as he took our order and walked off.
What really set me off was when the waiter told my wife and our friend’s wife, “I’m going to need you to speak louder.” Not the worst thing to say, but the tone was dismissive and rude.
Our food came relatively quickly after that, but again, no check-in from him. The veal parm that was supposed to come with vodka sauce came out with regular sauce, and one of our appetizers never arrived. At that point, we were done and just wanted the experience over.
When the waiter came back saying, “Your food will be out shortly,” I couldn’t help but think — man, you clearly checked out on this table a long time ago. When dessert time came, we said, “No thanks,” and my friend mentioned, “We didn’t get one of our apps, just take it off the bill.” He was already halfway to the POS. He Came back, threw the bill — no thank you, no acknowledgment — nothing. Honestly, Denny’s has better waiter etiquette.
My message to our waiter, “A.S.” : Listen, man, I was a waiter. I don’t expect much as a guest, and we made it pretty easy on you tonight. My advice — step it up. There was nothing redeemable about your service, and I have zero guilt about leaving a 10% tip. You lost us as customers but luckily the restaurant is very new you can change your attitude and lack of...
